Last night I had a stye on my eyelid . When I went to bed looked in the mirror and all my eye was red and gunky and very painful.

I bathed it with cooled boiled water then thought I would try and put some breastmilk on it .

It soothed it straight away got up this morning and eye looks normal with no pain .

I am amazed .

---- does it work for wrinkles and celulite too ?

StealthPolarBear · 01/04/2009 20:44

wow
i tried it on DS's conjunctivitis but it didn't seem to help
Do you think it'll sort out his gunky ear?

ABetaDad · 01/04/2009 20:50

BUT BUT BUT ....

Do you think formula would have the same effect as breastmilk or do you think the toxins in formula would damage your eye?

Can you use breastmilk after it has been stored in the fridge or is it essential to squirt it into the eye straight from the breast?

Are you sure you should do it just for one night or should you keep it up for a couple of years just in case?

[ComeWhinewithme - that is very good. You almost had me there. ]

???ABetaDad

I put some on ds's infected willy (poor thing). It worked a treat!

StealthPolarBear · 01/04/2009 20:58

If CWWM squited it into her own eye then she is a contortionist. If someone else squirted it into her eye, then that makes an amusing picture

ABetaDad · 01/04/2009 21:02

Did she do it in a restaurant?

Nancy66 · 01/04/2009 21:14

ha ha ha - very funny Abetadad.

Umlellala · 01/04/2009 21:19

Oh, is this an April Fools?

Cos I actually do this for my styes suffered terribly with dd, and am v prone... but every time I have felt one come up since ds has been born, I have rubbed a bit of breastmilk on and voila - no stye!! . Was genuinely considering expressing some milk to freeze for when I stop bfeeding, is so instant (anyone who is prone to styes knows how miserable they make you)

ABetaDad · 01/04/2009 22:00

Well it might be an April Fool (I liked the celulite reference) but actually it is true that it 'cures' minor infections. Breastmilk is really really amazing stuff.

I agree with Umlella. I get styes very badly when I am tired too.

I have always suspected that it also cures ulcers or indeed any kind of open tissue infection. I don't think it kills bacteria and viruses but I suspect it makes it more difficlt for bacteria and viruses penetrate the epithelia or mucosa. I know my Dad used to say that a lambs fed on formula milk suffered from ulcers in their stomachs but feeding them some breast milk cured it.

Shame we seem to have lost these ancient remedies or at least not learned to make modern mediucine from them.

Grendle · 01/04/2009 23:56

I tried it on dh's eczema once , as it seems to work on ds's. He onely allowed one treatment and it had no effect.

I have used to good effect on dcs sticky eyes, nappy rash, bunged up noses, etc. Magic .

Grendle · 01/04/2009 23:56

only

Many years ago I used to get chapped hands at lambing time with the cold weather and constantly having my hands in birth fluids. I used to get quite deep fissures in my finger tips that were very sore but by accident I found out that ewes milk cured them. Yes absolutely true.

We used to always check the ewe could feed a new born lamb by squeezing a little milk from each teat and of course it got on the fingers and I used to just rub it in without thinking and it not only took the pain away but eventually healed the cracks.

We know the ancient Egyptian nobility bathed in asses milk and it is probably the case that it was used to condition the skin, heal small cuts and insect bites. So in answer to drlove8 it might well cure or at least condition wrinkles.

I also read that the ancient Greeks used to save the whey (fluid after cheese making) and use as a medicine. I suppose like honey we have somehow forgotten these 'cures' and now rediscovered them.

I am tempted to try some milk on my styes. I never thought about it before and am wondering whether perhaps ewes milk or goats milk might work? It is a sterile product after all so surely cannot harm but I have read that freezing it might diminish its properties and so will need to get it fresh.

Comewhinewithme · 02/04/2009 08:36

You may well laugh but it fixed my eye .

Well you certainly won me over. I admit I was a bit sceptical at first although I knew milk had some medicinal properties.

I am definitley going to give goat/ewe milk a try as soon as I feel the very first twinge of a sore eye. The eye ointments do not seem to work that well on my styes. They take days to go away and never have any ointment in when it first starts off.

I will be sure to let MN know how it goes.
