Um, I'm a bit confused - how do I phase out breastfeeding?

Hello - I'm breastfeeding my nearly 7-month old ds and would really appreciate some advice. He's eating solids and as well as something for breakfast, lunch and tea I feed him first thing in the morning, mid-afternoon, at bedtime, and often once in the night (though once or twice he has slept through). I'd like to start stopping, but I also know that milk is still a vital part of his diet. He won't drink from a bottle, but will sip water or formula milk from a cup, but far less than he would from the breast (or so I imagine - have no real way of telling!). The real issue is that he's never been much of a demand-er iyswim. I think he would quite happily not bother with his morning feed, and I'm pretty sure I could replace the mid-afternoon one with water and some kind of milky snack, but I also really don't want to go too fast and deprive him of the nutrients he still needs...

This is really rambly - sorry! Basically, could anyone tell me what they'd do if they were me? Try dropping another feed and make sure he's getting lots of milky things in his food? Or... do something else?

Thanks to anyone who's read this far!

I'd do what you suggest to be honest. Make sure the solids he's getting are a mix of proteins, carbs, veg and fruit and he'll be fine. I gave cows milk at this age too as I prefer that to formula, but I know that goes against current advice.

I'd go slow with dropping the feeds, just one every few weeks. I definitely wouldn't substitute with cow's milk though, it's far too early for that and your LO would miss out on nutrients. Better to substitute with formula. cow's milk as a drink is from 1 year.
