bf baby being sick - any ideas why?

Ds is 4 weeks old, and over the weekend we had the most frustrating time - he was feeding really frequently (i.e. every hour, certainly no longer than every two hours all day) but kept being sick after each feed. I don't mean the kind of dribbly posset that always ekes out, but big quantities of curdled looking milk, sometimes projectile. He was still producing the old wet and dirty nappies and seemed ok in his self, no temperature etc, so I didn't take any further action, just kept feeding him, and today he hasn't been sick so far. So any ideas what could have caused it? I had a spicy meal on Friday night, could this have upset him? I bf my dd and never had any problems with food affecting my milk so never gave it a second thought... Or could it be something else?

Hi sorry to hear about poorly baby. How is DS today?

My DS is frequently sick after feeds. Sometimes he isn't for a whole day, sometimes - like today he is sicky and there seems a lot of it. Keeps worrying me, but think is fine. Never projectile though.

Look up reflux, could be?

Some babies are just sicky is what I have been assured. We keep him upright for a good while after feeding which seems to help. Also, as am BFing, I hold him not across my tummy but sort of sit him on my knee - if that makes sense. Keeps him upright better to keep the feed down. If he feeds from one side only, sicks up less, but if takes both, then is invariably sick. The say they self-regulate and know how much they need, but he seems to be a greedy glutton and takes more than fits in

Also, moving him around after feeding seems to make it worse. Not always possible I know, but if I can just hold him for a full 5 mins or so, does help.

My only other tip - sorry this is long - is a dummy. It seems to help after feeding to make his digestive system continue to keep the feed down as he is still digesting without more feed going down.

Are you sure he's hungry each hour? Not mistaking for comfort or tiredness? Perhaps try a dummy as he may be trying to suckle rather than needing to feed?
