My 2 and a half year old had a full head of nits - so so horrid! Anyway, we treated them twice with the recommended shampoo from the chemist and used the nit comb provided. Because her hair is so fine the nit comb slid straight through and I am not sure how successful it was getting ALL the eggs off her head.

It has been a whole week since and I can still see the white eggs on her hair - are they dead? or has she still got nits?

Any advice here would be greatly received.

umchuck you'll be best re=posting this in "childrens health" or something.

But FWIW, if you treated last week then you will need to give it 10 days from then and do it again, to catch the ones who have hatched in the meantime.

The nitty gritty comb is brilliant as well, close-together prongs and each one is spiral shaped for maximum comb-age.

The white bits are empty egg casings. It doesn't necessarily mean that your dd still has headlice. How close they are to the scalp tells you how recently the eggs were laid. If she has some within 1cm of her scalp then she may still have headlice, if they are more than 2 or 3 cm from the scalp then they were laid a while ago and are old egg casings.

If you do need to treat again I recommend Headrin which worked really well for my DS (and DH and me) and you don't need to nit comb when you use it.
