I wasn't sure which section I should post this article in.

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1165074/Breastfeeding-linked-positive-parenting.html

How do they link benefits of breastfeeding with income? what do they look at?

Strikes me a peculiar article!

Academicmum · 27/03/2009 09:35

Jenski, it looks to me like they are not linking the benefits of BF with income but simply saying that more people at higher income levels are likely to BF than those at lower income levels. There's not much new in that as its been known for ages that the lower socio-economic class, the more likely you are to FF (probably because you are less likely to research the benefits of BF).

KingRolo · 27/03/2009 09:37

No shit! So it's best to do what nature intends! See those bosoms there - they are for feeding babies! Not for appearing in crap pap photos falling out of skimpy dresses and being commented on by middle-aged male bigots calling themselves 'journalists'.

Jenski · 27/03/2009 09:49

Oh, I thought maybe they were trying to say something new! But then again it is the Daily Mail!

I would see some other practical benefits to breastfeeding personally, such as not having to sterilise bottles, buy formula milk, carry a load of stuff everywhere you go etc..

Have you seen the link in the middle of the article though which says that 1 in 4 middle class children will be put in childcare despite evidence that it is harmful to health? Isn't this a bit ironic? So, if you are a middle class mummy you are more likely to BF but then put your child into childcare, but if you are not you are more likely to FF and have your child at home. It always seems none of us can win regardless of the choices we make, someone will be there to critise!

Jenski · 27/03/2009 10:14

It does seem that there is so much conflicting evidence. I guess though it is harder to breastfeed if you work full time with your child being at nursery!

There are also so many different nurseries, and some are clearly better than others!

Surely a happy calm home will make a happy child. Financial stresses can make a very stressful home, but so too can overworked tired parents!!
Who knows...???

Sorry I am blethering! Personally, all choices I make for my children are very carefully considered and even then I have doubts!
