Quick question about breat pumps.......

baby no.2 due on Monday - so got my breast pump (Avent hand pump) out the cupboard. It was put through the dishwasher and sterilised before I packed it away in August 2007.

When I took it out the box to give a fresh wash the padded bit that goes over your boob looked as if it was mouldy - not black mould - more like speckled congealed milk (lovely!)

It has been through the dishwasher and looks okay again - but I am a bit icky about it now.

So.........can you buy replacement padded boob bits - or shoul I just bite the bullet and buy a new one.

I know that I may not need it but I struggled with bf last time and dd only got breast milk that was expressed - so I want to be prepared in case that happens again.

3 years ago my silicon petal massager (I think thats it's proper name) went all manky and I rang Avent to ask if I could replace it, you can but it would cost £10 just for that one part. I managed to buy a whole new pump from Tesco for £17 and kept the old one for spare parts.

They might be cheaper now, I'd ring Avent anyway and see what they say. They were really helpful when I rang them, it's just I'm such a tight arse I didn't want to spend a tenner on something when for a few more quid I could get a whole new pump.

This time round though with ds2 I have not used the pump very much, but it is the same pump I bought back in 2006. Are you sure the marks weren't white watermarks. I had that on mine from where I had packed it away.

thanks tutu - it felt a bit greasy - and it was more spotty blobs than water marks.

I will give Avent a phone and see how much the petal massager (great name ) is now!

Hi

Phoned avent the other day about just the same thing and was told it would cost me £10 (think that was including postage).

HTH

By the way, felt much the same as tutu100! 'A tenner for that!?'

Same here. Think it was a water mark - mine looked good as new after a trip in the dishwasher. Having hand expressed at every feed for 7 months with ds (what was I thinking?!) and gave myself repetitive strain, I bought a good electric double pump this time round which was worth it's weight in gold.
