My almost-4wo son appears to be having some problems with reflux. He's always spat up a small amount of his feeds (I do mean small though- he is gaining weight well) but today one was tinged slightly green. I know this can be a sign of reflux, so I've decided to start feeding him upright instead of lying down. Not happy about it, because having him lie on a pillow while feeding is much easier for me than trying to prop him up, but whatever is best for him!

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for positions for late night feeds. We are co-sleeping, and I've typically been feeding him while we're in bed, and he goes straight to sleep afterwards. Trying to keep him upright sounds like I'll be bringing him downstairs, feeding him on the sofa, then having quite a time getting him to sleep once back in bed again.

Any ideas? Has anyone else had this situation?

Has he got a cold?

Green mucus is a sign of infection. He may have a cold.

What happens is that the mucus will be swallowed as they cant cough it up like us adults. Then it sits in the stomach. When he feeds the mucus doesnt get digested with the milk. When he lies down it just comes back up.

You can still feed him propped up on the pillow as his head will be higher than his stomach but I suggest you speak to the GP.

Thanks for the response!

He has had a slight cold for a couple of days (sounds a bit snuffy but no trouble breathing while feeding) so that might be the cause of it. There hasn't been any green since that one incident, so hopefully it was isolated.

The HV is due to visit on Monday. I'll bring it up with her, assuming things stay the way they are.
