Ds2 is three weeks off his first birthday and he's down to two feeds a day, morning and night. They tend to vary a bit in length but in general he still seems to enjoy it.

Until last night at least. He just refused point blank to feed. Gave a little nip when I perservered and then happily interracted with his brother instead.

This morning is the same, except after pursing lips around as if he's about to feed I get the (gentle) bite, then he starts crying.

I think it could be down to teeth as there's other signs of teething and he's grumpy today. We've dosed him up just in case, but he still doesn't want to feed. Solids and his cup of water seem fine this morning, but last night he wasn't keen on his main meal (but it was fish - which isn't particularly his favourite either).

I'm actually feeling pretty upset. I'm aiming for about a year and then was going to carry on to see, so by all accounts I'm almost there so I should be happy. Ds1 stopped cold turkey at around 8 months and was never interested again despite expressing for over a week just in case, and I'm dreading history repeating itself, albeit a few more months down the line.

So, any advice? I obviously keep offering for a while. Do I offer other milk as an alternative as he seems happy swigging down water from his sippy cup? (Cows milk, can't be arsed to buy formula this close to a year) Do I need to express to keep up supply - can't say I feel particularly engorged after two missed feeds, so I guess he'd been dwindling in quantity anyway?

I hope so, Prufrock. He is just too busy to bother at the moment

Had the same with ds at 10 months - I was really sad! But I'm seeing some good to it now - I can see my fett for the first time in a year for a start!

DS was like this too when he was a year although I was pregnant so I don't know if it tasted different to him. I offered him a beaker of warm cow's milk instead and he guzzled it down. That was the end

DD, now 14 months, on the other hand is not going to give it up. She will be on to the union if it even gets mentioned

Georgina, just wanted to say lucky you for not having periods thus far!! DS is nearly six months and I've now had 4 periods. So you're luckier than me!! Seriously though, DS sounds happy and contented, thats the most important thing. I understand how you feel about stopping, but better him decide, as everyone has said!! You've done incredibly well.

Actually, the no periods thing isn't so much luck as Mirena plus the breastfeeding ... can't really claim credit for that, lol. I had some bleeding after the Mirena was inserted but it all settled fairly quickly - think hormones from the coil plus even the slight hormones from breastfeeding kept it at bay.

Period started today, but was quite light which was a relief.

Thank you for all your thoughts. Do begrudge the faff of even pouring cows milk into an unsterilized sippy cup and then having it chucked around etc - keep thinking "damn it child, don't you remember there's an easier way?!!" . However, have just read the weaning thread over 1 year - 50% of me wishes I'd got that far to have that problem and 50% of me is quite relieved that its been taken out of my hands and resolved at quite a nice stage!

I have a perverse logic at times...
