How old was your DC when they self weaned????

My DD is just over a year old and has started to refuse the breast. The only feed she always wants is the night time one
I am worried that if she cuts down too much my milk will dry up completely. If she really doesnt want to bf anymore then thats fine although I did want to feed her for a while longer. But if its just a phase, my milk dries up and then she decides she wants to nurse again and I have no milk I will be gutted!
When did everyone else's DC's self wean? Is 12/13 months an average age??

3 years 10 months here .

12-13 months would be an early time to self-wean on average, but then one feed a day by that age is also quite few. You can go on doing just one feed a day for years, though, and your milk should be just fine. Has anything changed that might have led to this decrease? any chance you could be pregnant?

dd4 cut down to 1 feed of milk per day around 10 months and gave up bf at 11 months she wanted to big like her sisters and eat proper food & use a cup!!!

My eldest also gave up milk feeds at 11 months although she was bottle fed.

The other 2 were milkaholics although I'd switched them onto bottles of formula when I returned to work as I couldn't express. dd2 was disgusted when I binned the bottles when she was 2.2 and just gave her a cup.

There's no chance I could be pregnant. I think it's supposed to change the taste isnt it?
It's good to know that if I did only feed once a day ( usually it's at least 2) then my milk shouldnt dry up....that's what I'm worried about really.
She did bite a couple of times and really hurt and gave me a shock so I screamed. This resulted in DD bursting into tears and really sobbing. I felt really guilty for frightening her but didnt do it on purpose obviously! I wonder if it's put her off a bit?

dd was 12 months but i was preg and had been struggling to keep things going for a few months (she's cow's milk intolerant so couldn't switch to formula and was determined to get to the year with bf-ing for her sake)

ds1 was 2.6 and lost the ability to latch. we'd just been nursing in the evening for about 5/6 months

ds2 is only 5 weeks so a very long way of yet i hope

Dreamergirl · 15/03/2009 15:03

DD was 11 months when she lost interest in BM

DS unfortunatly I dried up at 5 months think we both missed it. but nothing I could do

None of mine self-weaned! They needed "encouragement". I have heard of this happening though. Is she teething at the moment?

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 15/03/2009 15:48

She may be teething. She has one of her molars on one side so should be getting the one at the other side soonish.
