Ok, thought that in 13 months I knew all the problems I could have, but....

I have a blister on my nipple!

DD is 13 months, I am breastfeeding mainly at night. She woke up this morning at 5.40 and I brought her into our bed, laid her down between me and DH, latched her on and went back to sleep. When I woke at 7.00 she was still (? - not sure obviously if she had stopped and started again) feeding. A little while later I noticed a blister on my nipple - raised, filled with fluid, about half a centimetre across, on the side of my nipple - I guess she wasn't latched on properly, but it didn't hurt when she was feeding, and it doesn't hurt now.

Has anyone come across this before? Should I pop the blister? Should I avoid feeding her on that side for a while?

Hi.

No, it is definitely a normal blister - raised, full of clear fluid. It isn't painful, but it is still there 9 hrs on. Should I pop it and make sure the area is clean before I feed her tonight? I can't imagine I should feed her on that side while it is still there!

I wouldn't pop it. It'll either pop when she's feeding - can't see that it'll do DD any harm as it's not infected just tissue fluid, or stay as a blister. If it stays as a blister you'll probably be less sore. If you pop, you MAY get it infected. Blisters are a bit of a protective cushion whilst an injury heals. Hope the little piranha is gentle with you tonight

Cool, thanks. I was a bit worried about it popping while she feeds, but also have a weird image of it filling with milk!! Will take your advice though (she fell asleep on the first side so won't be feeding on that side till she wakes up)
