Can you be sure they are getting enough

I bottle fed dd so i knew she was getting enough as i could see it going in.. I'm breastfeeding Ds and getting anxious about him not getting enough milk and i'm getting myself worked up about him being weighed on thursday.

He's having wet nappies and a couple of poos a day, he's sleeping ok and seems nice and settled.

Is it safe to asume he's getting enough do you think, would be be unsettled if he was hungry ? I wish boobs had a fuel guage so i could see. I cant rely on how they feel as we're still adjusting from long term expressing so they are quite engorged most of the time.

He feeds every 3 hours or so but not for very long, between 10 and 20 minutes.

He's 10 weeks old but only 4lb.

4lb?!

Normally I'd say as long as he has enough wet nappies, he's getting enough. Some babies get very efficient at taking it in by your ds's age, so it can be a really fast b/f.

but only 4lb?

How premature was he? How long has he been home from hospital?

Normally I would say plenty of wet and pooey nappies is a good sign that the baby is getting enough milk, but I don't know when the baby is so tiny still.

Was it you whose waters broke at about 22 weeks and so he is still very young iykwim?

In my experience babies do get what they need, but I can understand you being worried. Try not to worry about it though

lol, honestly

He was 13 weeks premature and was only discharged on sunday.

Wet and pooey nappies, alert when awake, gaining weight.

It's the hardest thing, trusting in your body and your baby that there's enough going in.

I think it's safe to assume that if he were hungry he'd be unsettled and the poo would change, wet nappies decrease. This is true for most babies.

If you are worried, offer milk more often and he'll take it if he needs or wants it.

Yeah that was me

He falls asleep when he's finished feeding and looks contented but i know hes going to be using more energy bf so i hope he's just not wearing himself out iykwim.
