Sterilising a 2nd hand Ameda Lactaline

Hi,

I'm thinking about buying one of these second hand from ebay, but from what I can gather they cant be sterilised. Is there a way to do it, or should I just replace the hygienikit part of it, which isnt that expensive. I didnt think it would be a problem, but when I looked for more information I got a bit freaked out by all the website harping on about hepatitis and HIV from used pumps Am I just being silly?

Replace the hygeinikit bit of it and you have nothing to worry about as the rest of it is just motor and does not come into contact with the milk in any way. That is one of the reasons it is such a good machine.

Great, thanks very much! Those bits arent too expensive so it'll still work out better than buying new!

Do you have any recommendations of bottles to use with is by any chance? Iknow everybody loves Avent, but I dont think they fit it. Are there any that do or is it just a case of decanting each time?

Thanks again!

Ameda and Medela pots screw straight on, or you can use the bags. It depends on how much you plan to express I suppose. These people sell a fairly good range.

I used the Axifeed bottles as they were a bit cheaper. I bought the starter kit I think. here

Thanks very much for all your help, I'll have a look at all of those

You can't screw Avent bottles on, but you can shove them on the pump head and it works fine as long as you hold them.

You can call Ameda direct - I did today to get a new set, as mine is 4 months old and has been used so much. And they also sell larger flanges (boob rests) for bigger breasts, which is pretty essential if you are big. The firm in question are fantastic, next day delivery, which was handy when DH and my mother managed to break, and then lose, the little plug thingie the tubing goes into.

would just point out that this pump fittings is not suitable for microwave sterilisation (not a clue why-assume nasties leach out). You might not have this info if 2nd hand

Hi,

Thanks for all your help and advice! I'd read about not being able to put them in the microwave, which is why I was a bit unsure about getting one second hand.

I'll check out those bottle typs, thanks! I also read that NUK bottles fit them, does anyone know if that's true?

Thanks so much again
