I posted this link in another thread somewhere but it got lost I think.

This is so interesting it deserves more readers!

Wow--that would resolve a few ethical issues if they could utilise the cells in breast milk.

Fascinating. Thanks for the link.

Thanks for posting this! Very interesting.

That is very interesting, it would be a huge breakthrough in disease research.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 05/03/2009 07:47

that is amazing!

Excellent article - thanks for sharing!

That's a good read.

I have this pet theory (and no time to look up any real research on this) that there must be a connection between the hysterically high rise in rates of diabetes and the decline in BF. And it can't all be socio-economic and dietary confounding factors (in my pet theory).

My deeply scientific reason for this pet theory is that some people don't get diabetic however bad their diet is. I wonder if this research has been done epidemiologically? Does anyone know?

whatknot · 05/03/2009 21:49

WilfSell: I tend to think the same re the increase in asthma... My mum is a retired primary teacher and latterly used to remark on how many inhalers she would have to keep track of in class compared to 30 years previous.

Could this also be related to early feeding?

I do have another pet theory too - that involves the effects of certain vaccinations, but that's another subject altogether and I won't meddle with that here!

I don't think there's always a link between BF and not getting asthma. I know too many asthmatic children who were BF.

Both mine were bf for 8 months, started solids at about 16 weeks (as recommended ten years ago). We were incredibly careful about what they ate as babies.

BOth have asthma.

Perhaps it would be worse if I hadn't BF them.

this is why they're scientists and we're not
