Have started a thread but think I may have posted in wrong topic. Just wondered if you take the combined pill and whether you still manage to breastfeed morning and night?? doc said is would dry me up completely.

Read and decide for yourself, papaya...no real certain answer. Why can't you take the POP?

thank you for that information, I am in a right state deciding what to do to be honest. I have very very heavy, painful periods, and doc said minipill more than likely wouldnt help this. my cycle is great on microgynon30, predictable and light, with 2 holidays coming up i cant even bear the thought of going abroad with the timing of my af due on both of them. Went to the doc today he said to go on mycrgynon as before and that i should stop breastfeeding my ds

In an ideal world i was hoping my af didnt return until after my hol's, ds isnt ready to stop b'fing in the day, in an ideal world i could take the combined pill and feed him, but somethings holding me back. I am going round in circles! nothing seems to be able to guarantee to stop or reduce my periods and enable me to continue to feed him. I was going to have the depo injection but have read so many bad things about it

When DC2 was born I had a leftover packets of what I thought was the 'mini pill' and started taking them at 6 weeks, it was only when I went to the GP for a repeat prescription that I realised I had actually been taking the 'combined pill'.
My milk production seemed perfectly fine and baby was healthy and putting on weight, I was very concerned about the possible side effects to him but doc could find no conclusive research.
Anyway, GP gave me a prescription for the 'mini pill' and my milk production went wild, my boobs were huge, so the pill had affected my milk but not that I or DS had noticed.

thanks for that treadmillmom, had a long hard think last night, long talk with dh he researched it all for about 2 hours, and although we can find nothing conclusive about it affecting the baby, I am going to reduce feeds to morning and night with a view to weaning him completely over the next couple of weeks if my milk lasts that long x happened sooner than i would have liked and I would love to keep morning and night feeds going but not sure its worth it as it will send me insane with worrying I am harming him and not sure my milk will last on this pill xx

Although more invasive, have you considered the IUS? (the type of coil that has progestrogen impregnated into it). Apparently it makes your periods much lighter and may even make them disappear altogether and can still be taken out later. It shouldn't affect BF as the hormones are delivered locally in the uterus rather than going into the bloodstream. Its also as effective as the pill and you wouldn't have to worry about remembering to take it or anything.
