Can anyone explain this behaviour...???

My DS is 15 weeks and whilst I am mainly breastfeeding him, since 2 weeks old he has taken a bottle as well. He now has 2 bottles a day at 6pm and 10pm. We have tried in the past to give him a bottle at 7am occasionally (so I can have a lie in) but he always refuses it. He usually takes a bottle at 6pm (from me) and 10pm (from DH) with no problems however yesterday and today he screams whenever the bottle goes in his mouth (a real problem last night as I was on a night out 1 hour away!).

What I have done is to give him my breast for 30-60 seconds and then remove my nipple and give him the bottle instead which he then happily drinks. I don't understand this behaviour - I don't mind BF him but I like the flexibility to not have to - so I can go out or go to bed early.

The other day he was breastfeeding and he clamped down on my nipple with his gums (ouch!) so I wonder if he's teething? He's very happy the rest of the time though. They are such confusing little creatures!!

Has anyone else experienced this? I find it very strange that he isn't completely refusing the bottle but won't happily take it unless he has breast first??

well, maybe it's just cos he wants the closeness and niceness of breastfeeding?
remember, to a baby it's a lot more than just milk.

so maybe he just needs a bit of that first

Maybe - I don't mind if thats what he wants or needs as I love BF anyway. It just seems strange that this behaviour has just started and I was wondering if it might be linked to any developmental changes - teething, growing etc??

I am planning to work 1 day a week from May so whilst I am not concerned yet I am hoping its just a phase !

is it perhaps the temperature of the milk, i found this wit my little one, its pretty warm when it comes out of you!

Thanks for the suggestion womble but I warm the milk right up now as I found he prefers it so I don't think thats the problem.
