Extended bfding - need to stop and are there such things as friendly councillors to help?

DD is just over two and I've been advised to give up breastfeeding as I have trouble getting pregnant as it is and we'd love another baby.
I have tried on my own but DD relies on it heavily and is a very fussy eater. I want to give up gently but don't seem to be getting anywhere.

Does anyone know if any councillors specialise in this sort of thing, especially any who are supportive of extended breastfeeding as at our gp I feel almost sneered at! We're in central London

looseleaf - there is a LLL book called "How Weaning happens" which you might like to read. You might be best to give one of the breastfeeding helplines a call.

Have you already been ttc? Or were you waiting to wean before you started trying?

I have been ttc no2 for 2 years now and have been unsuccessful because the feeding has shortened my luteal phase. Various attempts at weaning 3.4yo ds just weren't working for us, so I decided to take the easy option and just wait until he weaned himself (still waiting )!! There were other factors in my decision though, ds became intolerent to dairy just before he was two, and I decided that was a pretty good reason to carry on.

Would partial weaning be an option for you?

Thanks so much mawbroon - lovely to get a reply and I'm still not 100% sure weaning the right thing and maybe partial weaning is.
I will definitely order the book you suggested- thanks.

We've been ttc since DD born really as she took so long to conceive (well, 2.5 years). However, part of me would really like to respect her timing with weaning as you have and the minute I do any research into breastfeeding it always reinforces we're doing the right thing for DD! But as all our friends are starting to have second babies part of me longs for another and the specialist I saw asked me to come back whenever we managed to wean DD...

Hold on! Before you trot off to Amazon, I would also recommend reading "Taking charge of your fertility" by Toni Weschler.

I started charting 20 cycles ago and because of this, I know the reason behind my lack of conception which makes it easier for me to deal with while I wait for ds to wean.

Obviously I don't know your circumstances re your fertility, but this book might be able to give you some answers if you are not already charting etc.

DD distracted me and I haven't ordered anything yet.

I've had scans which explained why I can't conceive easily as 50 or so cysts on each ovary. It's quite hard to know if I've ovulated (sorry TMI) as I've never really got periods (maybe once a year)
