NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor Training

I have just recieved the BFC information pack from the NCT and am very interested in studying for the diploma. I just wanted to ask some questions and hear from people who have already done it.

First question... the nearest tutor to me on the list is a fair distance (but do-able occasionally), how often would you need to see the tutor?

The pack says to set aside an average of 6-7 hours per week for studying, is this realistic or did you find much more time was needed.

Finally, the pack says that the services of a bfc are "available to any mother who wants to contact them for information
and support.
These services are provided free and the counsellor is not usually paid" It goes on to say a session of the NCT antenatal class course is devoted to bf and led by a paid bfc.
Obviously becoming a bfc is about wanting to support mothers first and foremost but is there an opportunity to earn money or should I look at it more as a volunteering opportunity. I really don't mean to sound money grabbing here just thinking long term, within the next few years I do need to look at getting some sort of paid work so would need to know if this would provide any income and if not is it possible to successfully carry out the role with a young family and a part time job?

If you have got through all that, Thank you and TIA for any experiences/advice.

4-6 weekly tutorials.

Depends how you find studying.

mostly vluntary but there are ways to make pin money - classes, nat bf line work, nhs work in some areas.

Excuse brevity - bf baby on lap!

Fab work, I loved the course - changed my life. Some people do it and work full time . I love the work too.

Good luck!

Thanks Lindenlass! I really want to do it but don't want to start something I can't finish! I think I will give the tutor a call at some point.
