What's the deal with visits from HVs?

I'm in London and I've seen my HV only once since DS was born (he's now 5 months).
All his immunisations have been done at my local GP which has allowed me to spread them out more than the recommended schedule- something I'm really happy about.

But as far as weighing and measuring, he's only had it done twice in his life (they don't have baby scales at my GP so even though they do a baby clinic they don't weigh or measure ). Is there a schedule that's meant to be followed? Are they meant to call you or is it up to me to do it?

TBH I'm not bothered, DS is growing beautifully (he's already on 9 months clothes) and very happy and alert so I have no issues. He's my 2nd which means I'm not as worried as 1st time mum might be.
I'm just curious as DD was born in the States- over there you have pediatricians and very scheduled visits, so it's a completely different system.

The HVs now mainly concentrate on children and parents who are identified as needing extra support/monitoring.

Appart from immunisations I've only seen my hv when I decided to go with a q or for weighing (so about three times and not since 10 months).

You don't need to see them if you feel happy with how things are going, but they are a resource for you if you have any questions or want reassurance about anything. How much you value this depends on your HV (although ours are v nice).
