a question about slowly switching from bf to bottle for a baby not interested in the bottle (or can we bypass the bottle?)

Hello - I'd really appreciate some advice please. My ds is 5 months and is exclusively bf. I'm planning to keep going until we hit 6 months but after that would like to have an end-point in sight. I don't want to stop abruptly, but would like to begin the process of stopping at around that time. But I'm a bit confused - as far as I can make out, either breast or formula milk is a major part of a baby's diet until 1 year. But what if your baby is just not interested in drinking from a bottle? I've been trying every day with a bottle of ebm for a week or so now, and he'll take a few sucks but nothing like a full feed. Do I just keep trying? Will I end up having to keep bf for another six months if he doesn't take the bottle? Or can I try giving him formula in a cup? Sorry, I know these are really basic questions, but any advice / experiences would be great.

Try a cup and see how it goes. You don't need a special cup, though a Doidy cup can be useful. I bf DS exclusively until 6mo, but he didn't take bottle - in fact he only took milk from a bottle after he started his settling in period at nursery at 11mo, but happily drank water/juice from a sippy cup. Didn't take milk from sippy cup for some reason...

I would just go straight to a cup, it'll save the hassle of trying to wean him off a bottle later.
