no correlation between day and night feeds!

15wk old DS generally breastfeeds 3-4hours during the day and always has his bedtime feed at 7 then has a formula feed (normally 180ml) around 11pm and wakes for 1-2 breastfeeds at night. It's now really difficult to get him to feed for 10mins during the day, so I can't believe he's really getting all that much unless he's super efficient...thing is, doesn't seem to make any difference how much he has towards the end of the day as to when he'll wake at night...eg two night ago he was on the boob for 10mins at 7pm, had 50ml at 11pm and didn't wake to feed til 5am...last night, he had 180ml of EBM followed by 10mins on boob at 7pm, then 180mls formula at 11 yet woke to feed at 2:45am...and again at 6am!

Should I give up any idea of being able to have more than 4 hours sleep at a time any time soon? I reckon he probably won't sleep through til at least being on solids now (not too worried about him sleeping through), but I'd love to get back to our regular 5am only waking (which it was 7-11weeks)

I only feed him during the night if he's definately hungry, test to see if he's rooting and suckling and check that it's not the dummy he wants first....

I think babies just have hungry days and not so hungry days, just like adults do. What we do/feed in the day doesn't seem to affect DD either - we are alternating good and bad nights regardless of what we do during the day!

Hope he gets over his cold soon (that will prob affect his sleep too) and that you are well ... No doubt someone wiser can advise but wanted to say hi

I hope I don't come across too harsh BUT be happy about 4 hours of sleep! ds is 13 weeks and feeds every two hours at night after 10pm (sleeps from 6.30pm to 10pm longest stretch during his night sleep)...

cool, thanks - I think I just got used to only waking once (then having 5 consecutive nights sleeping through 11pm-8am!) and it's a rude wake up call getting up more again (though it's every hour due to his cough and cold at the mo)
