pumping on the move?

I'm getting on great with my shiny new Ameda Lactaline breastpump and DS has finally agreed to grudgingly take a bottle of EBM when I'm not around. Phew, all should be well when I return to work in a few weeks time...

Bumpf with pump says there's an in-car adaptor I can buy to make the thing work off the cigarette lighter. Expressing whilst driving is obviously a no-no (not enough hands!) but I cannot quite see myself pulling up in carpark somewhere and baring all to get the pumping done either.

At the moment I don't even want my DP to see me pumping, never mind the general public.

Is it possible to do this discretely in a car? If so, how???

On the back seat with those lovely baby sunshades pulled down?

Tbh if your top is baggy enough you can replace it after 'latching on', at least far enough not to show boob through the car window

Not that i have ever tried it!

I expressed exclusively for a year for dd1 so completely understand your dilemma! However I never found a discrete way of doing it - I used to choose quiet car parks and would face inwards (if that makes sense)....I just used to park up, turn the radio on and just pump...this is completely out of character for me as I don't even like communal changing rooms....

The only way I can think of is to maybe try something like the Expressing hands-free pumping bra and then putting a muslin or something over the pump - but that sounds all v elaborate.

Not sure this helps......

A handsfree pumping bra? I must investigate these! Thanks!

I used to pump in the back of the car sometimes when I was out and about for work. I had a wrap (the sort where there is a back piece and then a bit that comes over each shoulder) and just pulled that round. With a top stretchy enough to pull down once attached, it was really very discreet

I pump in the car sometimes. I have one of those silver shades that goes over the windscreen to keep the car cool in the summer that I put up (yeah I know that might look kind of weird when it's freezing outside) & then I go in the back. I have a breastfeeding apron thing which I use to cover up incase someone glances in. My pump has a battery pack in it so it's even easier than a car adapter.
There was one time I pumped using a manual pump in the passenger seat while my husband was driving. We were going down the motorway.....I wonder if anyone saw me.....could have made for interesting conversations in the other cars.

DS had EBM from 4 (when I went back to work FT) to 14 months. I just pumped liked mad with the morning and evening feeds and completely over the weekend every weekend, then froze any surplus. Couldn't do it at work or on the way to work etc. But DS had no formula and eventually just took to cows milk like no tomorrow. It was hard work though and I don't think I could have kept it up more than once.

will this help with discreet pumping?

sorry, couldn't resist. i understand your dilemma.

Coat, open wth the sides out providing a slight barrier to the side, and a shawl/pashmina across the breat being pumped. Honestly, it wouldn't cross anyone's mind that you were pumping.
