Weaning toddlers from the breast - tell me how you did it please!

My DD is nearly 2 and I'm pregnant, tired and am ready to wean her. The "don't offer, don't refuse" has not had any effect, so I thought I'd cut feeds down gradually - first the morning feeds over 2 weeks, then naptime naps over 2 weeks or so and then the last BF at night (thankfully she sleeps through the night!) How does this sound?

If you weaned your toddler, what techniques did you use?

I said to my second daughter: "You know, it's your birthday next week, and you're going to be 2 years old, and you're getting a bit big to have mummy milk now". Her: "Okay, mummy!". Never even asked again. This is extremely unusual.

My son (weaned at 14 months because I was pregnant and was in pain), took about a week to convince that mummy milk was no longer the thing. Daughter number 1 was 17 months and didn't seem to mind not feeding any more. I just wanted my body back after over 3 years of being pregnant and feeding without a break. I got pregnant again about a month after stopping feeding daughter 2. hohum.

during the day i used distraction and at night i would limit the amount of time he could be on the breast. talking to him helped. foods that big boys ate etc. he was just over 2.

night weaning was infintley harder than day weaning though.
