If a fully BF baby has allergies, will they be 'non food' ones?

Sorry if this doesn't make sense but I as reading a thread on MN about 'allergic shiners' and I am 99.99% sure DS (5m) has them. He has red under eyes almost constantly (never goes completely) and swollen too. If he does have an allergy could it be through the breaskmilk (ie. lactose/gluten?) or is that not possible? Thankyou - cannot get a GP app. until next week but if it's possible I'll cut out some things. He is fully BF, no solids at all yet.

Actually it is possible for allergic reactions to occur in a BF baby due to foods consumed the mother.
My friend had to stop eating all dairy products herself because they brought her DD out in a rash.
She could start drinking milk again only after she weaned her DD.
It'll be hard to identify the cause of the problem, if it is actually an allergy, without professional help, but that is a possible cause.

my ds was apparently reacting to dairy and gluten in my breast milk, he had blood in his stools. I'll never really get to the bottom of it but that is what the consultant claimed. He had this god awful formula called Neocate which he always refused, and i gave up all dairy and gluten and continued to breastfeed and we got through it somehow. I doubt the gp will know. Don't cut loads of things out at once, cut out dairy if you can and see if it makes a difference [give it 3 weeks] but really, be careful, and don't give up breastfeeding just because a gp suggests it, they can be so clueless about it. If your ds is not distressed i would j ust keep breastfeeding.

i mean keep breastfeeding and not worry about diet too much. Definitely keep breastfeeding anyway!

He isn't distressed at all, just the eye rings. I am definatly not stopping breastfeeding

My DS2 is allergic to a number of foods and is BF. He does react if I eat any of foods, but it's more than just shiners. He comes out in terrible eczema, has very bad wind and tummy pains and does not sleep for longer than about an hour at a time. I would think that he'd have more symptoms than just shiners alone, if the problem was with any allergens in your milk.

That said...they're all different...
