possibly wrong topic, but have been reading through archives on metformin/pcos and am trying to gear up to confront gps so want to be as well informed as possible.

i have pcos as diagnosed by blood tests, though no ultra sound etc. don't need one - have quite severe menstrual probs plus weight, skin, hair, mood difficulties.

i have 2 dc, dd is almost 7 months, exclusively breastfed til 6mo. she is now sleeping through the night, has 4 big breastfeeds a day, some solids but probably mostly getting nutrition from me. i assume this is how we will continue-will take lead from her.
i nursed ds, now 2.5 until he was 18mo, when i was about 5mo preg with dd. his choice to stop. iirc, periods returned about 7mo after birth, first 2 cycles fairly okay then back to pcos nightmare.
this time, i have yet to have period, but been in considerable discomfort, sick, exhausted, moody etc since just after dd stopped nursing at night.

would like to conceive, but not in mad rush. mainly want to feel well. my quality of life is as impaired as if i was in a difficult early pregnancy.this is likely to go on for weeks and weeks.

gps at surgery say 'yes you have pcos. but you have children. there is nothing we can do whilst you don't want to go on the pill'. won't refer me cos am breastfeeding, and with wanting another baby, plan to be breastfeeding for several years to come-but can't go on like this.

bit of an essay, but does anyone have any advice?
i weigh less than before having dd, which is less than before having ds, but still have bmi about 36. i do overeat, but not always and not much. i mainly eat very well, though not as low gi as i know i should for pcos. really crave carbs all the time which doesn't help.i had begun exercise plan, but have had to shelve as am too exhausted/in too much discomfort/throw up if move too much. gp not helpful here either.

He could put you on metformin even though you are breastfeeding. So he's talking rubbish.

Gah! He could also refer you to an endocrinologist who might actually know the first thing about managing PCOS. Am quite on your behalf. Have a look on the Verity website, tis very good.

Hi I have PCOS and my GP is fairly understanding but always says managing my PCOS when trying to concieve is difficult. I've tried loads of things in the past. Until she went back to China I had an excellent acupuncturist who seemed to help eleviate moody swings and help regulate my cycle (as regulated as it will ever be) The only programme I have found good for weight lose was slimming world because it allowed me to still eat the complex carbs that is suggested. Probably not much help but accupuncture certainly helped me.
