Expressing - how often/far apart to keep up supply?

A quick query - I am currently mixed feeding and expressing every 4 hours which gives me enough to alternate formula with breastmilk. My question is whether it is the number of times I express in 24 hours that is important to keep up supply, or is it having the expressing sessions spaced evenly apart which is more important? I.e. could I do six sessions across the day/eve and drop one of the middle-of-the-night ones, rather getting up specifically to express because it's 4 hours since the last session, in addition to getting up to do feeds?

not sure how much the spacing out in itself matters, but in my experience that night feed isimportant for your supply. sorry!

Oh well, another reason to consider an upgrade to a double pump in that case! We have a 9pm, 1am and 5am feed - the 5am one is the worst...

Sorry - that should be expression session, not feed... Feeds are all over the place but tend to not be at 5am unfortunately!

yawn I remember getting out of my lovely bed at 3.30am to express when ds was in scbu. watching reruns of daytime tv, how low can you go...it was a weird time anyhow.

it did however not only yield a lot of milk, it almost doubled the morning express as well
