10 month old BF "on demand" - but he just does NOT demand it

To worry or not to worry?

DS3 is mixfed, EBF when with me, FF from childminder (a total of about 20oz/wk). On days that I do not work he feeds on wakening, before morning nap, before afternoon nap and before bed time. In the last couple of weeks has stopped wakening overnight for a feed.

He only ever has a BF if I offer it to him. We have to go to a quiet room otherwise he is too distracted, even then he does not go on anymore oftern than described above.

He takes 3 meals and snacks on fingerfood in between times, but only plays with a cup. He is (and always has been) an extremely active fidgety baby and is currently obssessed with wanting to walk!

He wees and poos and is v well indeed. So, is this enough? I am just getting a bit insecure as there are so many mums out there whose older babies demand to be BF lots and lots. I suppose I should be grateful .

My 9 mo only has one more bf feed than your ds. If he's putting weight on, I don't think you've anything to worry about.

Thanks for that.

Does your DC take any drinks from a cup? I keep trying to offer him some but he is just not interested - other than to chew it or wave it about showering the rest of us with its contents .

My 9month DS has weak juice or water in his cup with meals and two breastfeeds a day.

As long as he is healthy (alert, plenty of wet and dirty nappies, not losing weight) and receiving plenty of nutrients from a balanced diet it shouldn't be a problem. You may wish to increase calcium rich foods such as cheese, yoghurt etc.

I find she takes more from a doidy cupwww.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=doidy&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=3397294775&ref=pd_sl_8e9 c8r0rw1_b like this than the sipee cup, although I have to hold it. She still only takes a small bit of water at mealtimes, but than I'm still regularly bfing her throughout the day.

Mummyfor3 - my DD is now a year, but is very similar to yours and I know how much this can be a worry.

DD was also having bf 4 times a day at 10 months and only if I offered. I went back to work then and she rapidly dropped to morning and evening only (no doubt hastened by the fact that I'm pregnant). I think if they have lots of dirty nappies and are still putting on weight then they must be ok.

She also wasn't keen on drinking. She has started to drink quite nicely from a sippy cup but it took a very long time. I kept giving her the beaker at each meal and not making it "pressurised" - so if she just wanted to water the floor that was ok, but if she actually drank out of it we went mad going "ooooh, good drinking, wow that's clever" etc etc. I also tried lots of different cups - even let her drink out of a shot glass at one point as she would drink out of "novelty" cups - but I gave that up as I thought it would be very impractical if she got very used to something she can't use herself (e.g. glass). Also tried a doidy cup but it was being used to bath mommy rather than for drinking so gave that up!
