told midwife that dd2 was having 2ozs of formula every 3 hours. said she should be taking 3ozs, to maintain her body weight weighed 8lbs7ozs @ birth and on day 5 weighed 8lbs6.5ozs.
when she was weighed on day 10 had gone down to 8lbs4ozs.
she hadnt had a proper feed before they came out to see us.
we swapped formula milks after midwife visited on thursday dd2 had 4 3oz bottles
then yesterday had 3 2.5oz bottles and today had been having 2oz bottles.
they are coming out tom to weigh her.
dd1 dropped 2 whole centiles on weight graph in red record book.

Try feeding smaller amounts less often so every 2 hours.

when you say 2 centiles do you mean from 75 to 25 or 75 to 73...

From memory 2 /2 1/2 oz was about what dd would take at that age (little and often). also when she takes bottle is she not interested, falling asleep ,being sick or just not able to take anymore?

fwiw if she has dropped again tomorrow and you are worreid I'd get yourself to the doctor

and would echo what nappy addict says -from memory dd was a pig hungry girl and loved to graze until she was about 5 /6 weeks old.

DS was a grazer, little and often so don't worry (easier said then done).

Can't see how little and often matters if you are happy- not only is it a feeidng apttern akin to the one BF babies have anyway, but 1000 of calories is 1000 calories regardless of how taken in, surely?

Glad she's up to birthweight; fwiw charts are a guide as to who should be checked only and nothing mroe- most checked babies (all of mine and many more on MN) are perfectly healthy.

Agree with PEachy. IF everythign else is fine, i.e. baby is feeding, producing plenty of wet and dirty nappies, is not in pain and having times spent awake and alert then weight is only an issue is she starts to drastically drop weight.

Many, if not most, babies lose around 10% of their birth weight in the first few days.

Also, at day ten a baby's stomach is about the size of a ping pong ball, so they find it hard to take an awful lot of milk, plus their stomachs do not stretch too well at the beginning so much of it will be vomited up anyway. Little and often is the key.
