What to do with this bottle of frozen breastmilk?

I have a bottle of frozen breastmilk in my freezer from when ds3 (who is now 6 months old) was a week old and in SCBU. I was expressing and taking it in to them and then we got unexpectedly released so I had a full bottle. The problem is that since then I realised that he reacts to dairy in my diet and cut it out. This bottle was expressed when I was still eating dairy.

I just can't bring myself to throw it out, but am too worried to try giving it to him because of the dairy issue.

What would you do with it?

Maybe you could defrost it and use in your cooking or your coffee and tea

Drink it.
Recycling.

But as I am now dairy free for ds, surely I can't drink it as I was eating dairy when I expressed it? Not sure I want to drink it anyway

Good point. Errr...
Ceremoniously pouring down plughole while marvelling on how far you've come since SCBU?

Makes good rice pudding does breastmilk

Maybe feed it to your husband or unsuspecting visitors Or do you have a cat or dog that could drink it, at least then it wouldn't be wasted ?

Surely if you drink your own bm it will be so dilute in your resulting bm as to make no difference?
Disclaimer: I know nothing about this, just curious!

How long have you been going dairy-free? How long do you plan on keeping it up?
Just wondering whether there's some mileage in giving it to him to check whether dairy is still the issue it was?

Mummyfor3 · 30/01/2009 22:10

I think SamJamsmum has a point: there is a very good chance that at 6 months of age he may no longer be dairy intolerant. You could use it in cooking food for him - if he is on solids yet?

How did you survive 6 months without dairy? I would miss chocolate so many things..

IlanaK · 31/01/2009 19:33

Ah, but I still eat chocolate - just the really dark stuff as it is nondairy. I do miss other chocolate though. Its the cheese that I really miss.

I think he is still intolerant as he still reacts if I eat something I didn't realise had dairy in it.

I guess I will have to throw it away - just seems such a waste!
