God, I was so hopeful that Scotland would bring the rest of the UK out of the dark ages!

Good on her for bf feeding twins and the worker who showed her to the cupboard deserves to be bollocked, so she thinks about what exactly she is doing in the future

Snooch · 30/01/2009 21:14

OH. MY. GOD!!! [SHOCK]

MauriceDancer · 30/01/2009 21:29

32?!

TheProvincialLady · 30/01/2009 21:30

I had a follow up appointment in the maternity wing of our general hospital 3 weeks ago. I asked for the breastfeeding room and was directed to.....the disabled toilet

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 30/01/2009 21:33

md- thats what I though . Gawd I ashamed of myself!

terrinble hospital treatment.

TheProvincialLady · 30/01/2009 21:35

Oh ISWYM about 32 now. Having twins is probably very ageing, have pity. I am fairly well aged and my DC are 2 years apart!

MauriceDancer · 30/01/2009 21:41

lol peachy... is make-up very expensive in hamilton?

madmouse · 30/01/2009 21:47

reminds me of the cafe in a museum in hte forest of dean. that has a breastfeeding welcome sticker - on the door of the ladies toilet

on a slightly less worthy note, am surprised she is two years younger than me. Thought my ds had done a fair bit to age me...

MauriceDancer · 30/01/2009 21:50

my friend had her baby in that hospital, she said they were great for the old bfing stuff. presumably it was an oversight.

Mummyfor3 · 30/01/2009 22:28

Whoever showed her to that store room, should be made to carry the "log of eternal regret", or whatever it was called!!

I have had brilliant BF support from the hospital in question and feel a bit sorry the whole place should be tarred with the same brush. Personally, I had great help in times of dire need by dedicated and knowledgable staff - but I do not think that this would be considered v news worthy .

And yes, the West of Scotland diet, genes and general lifestyle can conspire to terrible effect - 32 !!

i went to see hv with dd at gp because i had post natel depression and was also having trouble feeding dd.i was feeding her in the waiting room and was asked to go into a treatment room (not to be seen-too not be seen!).i was so upset.bearing in mind why i was there and that it was my first child.i think that was beginning of the end as far as dd and breastfeeding went.dumb arses

ilovemydogandMrObama · 30/01/2009 22:37

Yes, those 'breastfeeding welcome' stickers

I ended up having to pump during a course I was doing, and they reserved the 'medical' room which was a walk-in closet with a life size picture of the Queen.

I swear it was Mona Lisa related as her eyes seemed to move no matter where I sat to pump. Was so creeped out, I ended up pumping in toilet.

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 31/01/2009 09:33

OOh I shall watch out for the cafe in the FoD- and enjoy feedng ds4 who will be 14 months next time we go there in full view! Will the restaurant owner be brave enough to run the gamut of dh and the boys to ask me to moce I wonder......... tee hee.

fledtoscotland · 31/01/2009 11:18

am really surprised. i had both of my boys in that hospital and had fantastic care. DS2 is still seeing the consultant there and I cant fault them at all.

re the picture and the age comments, in her defence she has just had twins. i look knackered (hopefully not that much) and mine at 11 months apart.

almeida · 31/01/2009 11:20

Why didn't she just feed them where she was? No need for special bf rooms imho.

belgo · 31/01/2009 11:33

There shouldn't be any need for a special room to breastfeed in, but it's nice when there is, and logistically, it must be pretty tricky bfing twins. My local hospital has got a special room for feeding and the chairs in there are far more comfortable then in the waiting room. I go in there whether ds is hungry or not, and then encourage him to feed for a bit. I don't think it was the nurse's fault that there wasn't a specific room available.

almeida · 31/01/2009 11:36

Have not had twins but haave bf everywhere & would refuse a set aside room

littleducks · 31/01/2009 12:33

i have bf most places but with twins i could see a sensible chair and a bit of prvacy might be useful

belgo · 31/01/2009 12:35

and I think these feeding rooms should be available to all babies however they are fed, certainly not just specifically bf babies. Privacy and space and comfort is useful at times to all of us with babies, especially mothers with 10 week old twins, breastfed or bottle fed.

laumiere · 31/01/2009 12:43

Kudos to Canary Wharf Jubilee shopping centre in London, which has a PARENT and baby toilet with enough room to take your pushchair in with you, and a feeding room with a comfy chair, sink, mirror and bin. It's a decent size too.

If you ever want to experience, it's on the 1st floor, turn left just after the doors and before the mobile phone shop.

edam · 31/01/2009 12:50

Give the poor woman a break, she's got 10 week old twins, I'm not surprised she isn't looking at her best!

I do hope she makes a formal complaint to the hospital.

TheProvincialLady · 31/01/2009 13:36

I only asked for the BF room as it was my first public BF and I was feeling nervous. In the end I decamped to a waiting room. A woman sat next to me, smiled, saw what I was doing and promptly changed places I don't think she was disgusted but just thought I would be embarrassed. Now I am a seasoned 6 weeker, I will BF anywhere.

MauriceDancer · 31/01/2009 22:08

give the poor woman a break, lol. she's just never 32, that's all. she's looked like that all her life, i'll bet.

MauriceDancer · 31/01/2009 22:10

oh you know what i mean. that type. a lot of them live in Hamilton.

i know of so many people getting excellent bfing care in that hospital, it's so likely to have been a daft wee auxiliary making a mistake. one that by the looks of things is easily remedied.

paolosgirl · 31/01/2009 22:10

This is in the NHS area I work in, and the breastfeeding co-ordinator for Lanarkshire is one of my work colleagues. I can't wait to get the low-down on Monday...she will be FURIOUS.
