Wind or reflux?

Hi,
My 15 week old son has had a lot of trouble bringing up his wind for the past week and he just seems so uncomfortable all the time. He was windy right from birth but we switched to Dr Brown bottles and they worked a treat, every feed he'd do massive, satisfying burps, sometimes even without rubbing or patting him. However, all of a sudden, the big burps have been replaced with tiny little ones which leave his tummy distended and cause him to cry. He can't bear to be flat on his back either and for the past 2 nights has only fallen asleep either sitting up or on my chest.
Also, he's started to fuss during feeds. He seems to want it but at the same time can't bear to take it, sometimes gagging. Could this be wind or is it reflux? He isn't a sicky baby but I have noticed that he's been sick more often than usual.
I just don't understand how he could be fine for ages and then suddenly develop a wind problem, unless it isn't wind at all and is in fact reflux? Please help, I can't bear to see him so uncomfortable!

seeing that it seems to have happened all of a sudden I would have him checked over by the GP as he sounds very uncomfortable hmm]

Have you tried infacol or dentinox colic drops before a feed?

Nesle · 30/01/2009 15:27

Yeah, i've tried Infacol but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe I should persevere? I was thinking of taking him to the doc, I def will now. (sad)

something to try in the mean time:

you may want to put some sturdy fat books under the front legs of his cot or the head ends of his moses basket.

if it is reflux it will give some relief by raising his head and it means he is still lying flat as per anti-cot death measures.

Thanks, I'll give that a go!

I totally understand. We are in the same situation. Ds2 - 14 weeks, not sure if it reflux or wind. Have been on reflux medicines that did nothing. Have tried colief, infacol and gripe water. They too do nothing.
He screams and screams for an hour and a half, late evening.
So I really do understand.

Horrible, isn't it, Oblomov? I'm starting to think it could be trapped wind, but in the bottom area. I've noticed that his discomfort starts when his trumping stops. For example, he's been miserable and crying all day. Eventually, at about 3.30 he fell asleep and then upon waking did 3 or 4 big pops in the space of about 10 mins. He now seems perfectly happy and comfortable. Does your LO seem happier after a good trumping session?!

Oblomov Try dentinox colic drops. Gripe water and infacol did nothing for DS but dentinox worked a treat.

Nesle, I was told it was trapped wind and that it either came out as a ... burp, or a ... well fart basically. And yes he does ... fart alot. And seems relieved afterwards.
We have had 2 nights witout crying. And then last night was AWFUL. 2 hrs of inconsolable crying. It was so bad. I lost my rag in the end. Of which I am so ashmaed. And dh had to take over.
Nappyaddict, thank you, I willl try and get some.

Oblomov - any luck with the dentinox?
