Dummy sizes - does it matter? (Not meant to be suggestive - sorry!)

Just being totally over-anxious and silly, but does it matter than my DS, at 8 months, has a 'tiny' Mam dummy? I mean, it won't, like, make his mouth deformed or anything?

Sorry, I know this is mad but hey that's motherhood, a whole great big panic about Doing the Wrong Thing!

Oh, and I was not trying to be suggestive with the post title there.

Can I add the instructions say 'use the correct size soother for your baby' or something like that. Why?

The ones for older babies have bigger shields so would be less likely to fit in your lo's mouth. I assume it would mean that the smaller ones could be a choking risk.

What Seona said makes sense - also, have you tried sucking one of the tiny ones yourself? I know an adults mouth is huge compared to an 8 month old baby's but it's not very comfortable which to me suggests it's not as natural to suck that way.

My DS recently changed from Avent 0-3m to Avent 3-6m dummies - I had to replace some and just decided to buy the bigger size as he is now over 3 months. The first day he couldn't work out how to keep the bigger size in his mouth but after that (had to persevere with the new ones as we only had 1 of the smaller ones left) he was fine and spits out the small one now.

DS1 will suck any size dummy and has been known to be a dummy thief at nursery so am not sure that the size of the "teat" part is the issue. Seona sounds right about the size of the shield.

i have also noticed that different brands are differently sized. DS2 has a tiny mouth and is still using the 0-3month Avent ones. they are about the same size as the 3-6month tommee tippee ones.

I have also noticed that the biggest size is 6 months plus or 6-18 months depending on brand.

Not sure how to explain this to my 17 month old dd who is still in love with the dummy.
