Hi,

DS2 is having less and less night feeds but my boobs are still getting very full at night, what do you do other than give them dream feeds or to express? nursing pads are getting soaked through and using the thick johnson ones, does it naturally get better? i don't fancy expressing in the middle of the night!

Sorry if this has been asked before! DS2 is almost 10 weeks old.

Bumping for you.

Do you want to stop b/feeding?
How is he feeding at night?
He's almost certainkly too young to be going so long without a feed so if you want to keep breastfeeding, you need to feed at night.

DD2 is nearly 8 months now and we are gradually getting nearer to morning without a night feed - 5.30 am last few nights. I was getting fed up of my boobs waking me up before she did, but things are gradually settling down. I was going through so many pads at night, not to mention soggy bras, tops and bedding. Now the only problem is that if she has a cold or sore throat she sometimes wants an extra feed and I'm back to soggyness again for a few nights

no i don't want to give up bf, although he is being topped up with aptimal in the day (4-8oz per day).

he is feeding well at night (when he wakes which is getting later and later) then goes straight back down, he woke at 6.30 for a feed this morning after going down at 11 and then slept till 8.30.... night before i put him on my breast at 3.30 even though he didn't wake and he only had a tiny few minute feed before waking up around 7.

i'm taking it that to not wake him to feed my supply will eventually dry up?

Yes.
And that is probably too much formula in the day, if you want to keep breastfeeding. What's the reason for that i wonder?

chockywocky · 29/01/2009 17:43

well he lost a lot of weight after birth (dropped over 2 centile) and midwife encouraged me to give him formula or he'd be re-admitted to hospital if he lost even more weight, he seemed so little and frail so i did....

anyway, not sure if he's just used to the formula now as even after a breast feed he wants still wants more, hence the top up. i guess i should give him ebm, as he gobbles up that too! but i find it difficult to have the time to express at the right times with an active toddler to look after too. but when i do express i can get 4oz pretty quickly...

Chocky, if you want to make more milk, you just need to feed more.Your supply will eventually catch up.
Two centiles? That's nothing.
Sounds like you haven't had the support you need. A breastfeeding counsellor who knows what she is talking about is your best bet,not a (probably) ill trained and ill informed midwife or HV.
Check out this blog run by a wonderful MNer which lists all details and nos. for breastfeeding counsellors.
