so who else out there is a feeder at 8mths, and from those with lots of experience whats it like with teeth, as ds is cutting two presently!

my ds is sllergic to cows formula so i have kept the feeding going and its been fine really,
just cant be bothered expressing which if i did would mean a night out to the cinema or something!

Fed ds to 2.5 and still feeding dd at 20 months, both with a full set of gnashers towards the end. Dd has never bitten me, ds only tried it once. I went back to work both times when they were 5 months old so we were basically expressing until 12 months, then went straight to cow's milk - ds was more mixed fed though as the pump I had then was hopeless!
I have found with both children that I gave up feeding them in public after about 7 months when they got fidgety and cheeky.
Well done Hermykne and others!
Ionesmum, we have just been through the issue of stopping co-sleeping with dd as I was just too exhausted to go on. You may be in for a pleasant surprise. Dd went almost overnight from feeding up to three times a night (but I could tell it was mainly comfort sucking) to sleeping through in her cot. I couldn't hack controlled crying either but we literally have two minutes of grumpy yelling, then blissful silence all night. And she is still the same, happy, cheeky little rascal during the day. Good luck!

My "baby" was 3 yesterday and she is still very much breastfed. Will probably continue another year is she wants to.

Marina, thank you for your reassurance, I look forward to it happening! and I didn't know you had a dd (hadn't been here for ages)!

Marina · 08/04/2005 22:53

I am now pretty sheepish we didn't try and straighten her out months ago! Really hope it works the same for you, Ionesmum. I had my well-thumbed copy of "The no-sleep cry solution" as my daft dh calls it, at the ready...

Hi, I bf dd until 2 years, we did have a few bites along the way, but she quickly decided against that idea, when i stopped the feed and squealed at her!

SamN · 08/04/2005 23:41

hermykne, I'm currently bf my 9mo ds2 and I want to carry on for ages! I stopped with ds1 at 10m which seemed okay at the time. Food sensitivities in the family - that's initially why i wanted to feed ds2 for longer, but the more I read about it the keener I get for all kinds of other reasons. Also co-sleeping.

ds2 doesn't have any teeth yet but can clamp down pretty badly with his gums and I have to stop shouting 'NO' at him because he thinks it's extremely funny.

Ah yes, I have Pantley, too. What did you do exactly? Or did she just 'get it'?

Marina · 10/04/2005 19:16

She just "got it", still a bit astonished really. She started horsing about after finishing her feed and I just put her in the cot, kissed her goodnight and patted her back, and legged it with my fingers in my ears.
Am now contemplating the appalling scenario that she was feeding through the night out of politeness...

I have recently dropped to 1 a day... dd is 17 months old

I feel better for not doing 2 a day now ...more energy.

Papillon · 10/04/2005 19:35

Oh I have never been bitten ...abit chewed on but nothing I can´t handle... if she ever did bite me I would take her off and sit her on the floor - indicating that the feed was over to reinforce the message.. but have not had too.

SamN
how does your supply feel? these past few days maybe a week, i have felt that there is really v little there for ds, and if he is latching on and off and i squezze the nipple nothing really comes out. do they really get 6/8oz that quickly at this stage or do they get less and thats all they need.
i've noticed ds's poos are a little bit harder and he really grunts to push it out, so yesterday i jst gave him sweet potato and alot a pear which resulted in it being a bit softer today - Sorry for the detail!!!!
