Breastflow Bottles - anyone used them?

Hi there

Has anyone used Breastflow bottles?

Very keen to combine breast and bottle feeding this time round (struggled with breast feeding first time) and have read some good reviews but not sure how 'valid' they are

Anyone, got any experience of using them when combining breast and bottle?

Thanks

Bumping for you.

Hi Munteria - we used this for DS when we first tried him on a bottle at 2.5 weeks old - we initially tried the Mothercare Self Sterilise bottles but the flow was too fast for him (even with a slow flow teat) and he couldn't cope with it, coughing and dribbling. The Breast Flow bottle worked well though and he used it happily until about 6/7 weeks old when we moved back to the Mothercare bottles.

I think the replication of breastfeeding makes it an easier one for them to start with - or thats what we found. HTH

not used them, but they had them half price in tk maxx the other day if that's any help? lol

We used these for DS after using Tommee Tippee closer to nature bottles to combine with breastfeeding and expressing. This was when DS was about 3mths and wanted DH to be more involved in feeding. For one reason or another we had about a weeks break, where no bottle was used and when we re-introduced a bottle, the breastflow ones were the only ones DS would take-agree with Chocorange that the replication must help the transition. After about a month on these, we introduced the Avent bottle with no trouble at all

Munteria - are you planning on combining the two from the start? Just because you had problems last time doesn't mean the same will be true this time - different baby and all that I only ask because you may want to hold off on the bottles until you have bf established. TBH I would suggest that you speak to a bfc and/or attend a breast feeding support group before the baby arrives so that you can discuss your experience from the last time and maybe get some useful information and advice for this one.

They are quite expensive tho so I'd suggest just getting a couple (if memory servesthey do a pack of 2) then try introducing a different brand depending on how many you need. DEF worth having a look in tk maxx if they're half price!

We used these for our DS until he got to about 7 months and wanted a bigger bottle (I had the 5 oz ones) - then moved on to Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature. DS had a bottle maybe once every three weeks from wk 3 to about 16 weeks and then maybe 2-3 times a week from then on. No trouble going between breast and bottle here.

We've been using these for the past 3 weeks and I think they are AMAZING. My 12 week old DS wouldn't take any bottle at all (I tried 3 other brands including Tommee Tippee which my DD took no problem) but he is great with these, I think they just suit him better that the others. He still breast feeds 4 times a day and then takes the bottle for his late night feed.
I am reassured that he may be able to go back to the other bottles after a few weeks but I have just ordered some more Breastflow bottles from amazon as things are going so well.

Hi

thanks for all your feedback.

To answer your question Bubbleymummy - I had mastitis last time, followed by thrush (me - nipple, DD - mouth) was really painful so I'm a bit wary. However, i will try and only breastfeed for as long as I can but like the idea of introducing a bottle for DH to give the dreamfeed. I wondered whether I had intro the bottle too early last time (think we used Avent or maybe it was Tommee Tippee 2 weeks in). If I'm desperate this time to introduce the bottle then want one that is as compatible as possible with BF so makes switching easier. Also, not going to bother expressing if i cant help it as spent my whole day last time, feeding, topping up then expressing! with a toddler as well this time i wjust ont have the time!

Great rec for the Breastflow bottles. thank you. I rang their helpline and apparently they are introducing a BPA free version soon so will try and hang on until they are launched (hopefully the new plastic wont affect performance) but if not will def try TK Max out!. I will do as you suggest and just buy a couple to start with.

X

I have just ordered some given all the good feedback here. i am desperate to get my DD onto a bottle and all our efforts to date have been met with flat refusal.

Keeping everything crossed!

another thumbs up for the breast flow bottle. My DS refused a bottle at about 12 weeks and this was the only one he'd take happily. Have seen the 5oz bottles in TK Maxx for £5ish. Has anyone seen the 9oz bottles? My mothercare no longer stock them and would like to get some more.

Seona1973 · 26/01/2009 14:08

This website sells the 9oz bottles

saladsucks · 27/01/2009 22:18

Amazon sell the 9oz bottles (though currently out of stock). It is £15 for 3 bottles.
