Stopping night feeding

I really want a decent nights sleep. My 17 month old is feeding frequently at night. I haven't slept for sooo long.

She is teething at the moment. I feel it's more of a comfort thing than thirst.

I'm really tired. Sorry.

I would like advice on how to stop night feeds or maybe give up BF completely?

Many thanks.

OK, you need to give us more details though... not sure what the problem actually is? How do you know it's teething? And how do you know it's a comfort thing and / or not hunger? And also do you want to stop night feeds or stop BF (two very different things). I'm sure if you write more details you'll get better responses...

Hello, I reached the same conclusion at a much earlier stage than you (so well done you for sticking it out so long). My 8 month old was feeding about 8 times a night for comfort and refusing to go back to sleep without being fed. I was worried about giving up night feeding as we are going BLW and I was not convinced she would do ok with no night feeds. In the end i needed some sleep before i started back at work part time and so did the Baby Whisperer pick up/put down and sitting beside her cot talking to her and putting my hand on her to help her go back to sleep. I figured in y head that I would feed her every four hours if she needed it (i can kind of tell when she is hungry).

It actually turned out to be lots easier than i thought. She was pretty miffed the first night and woke up lots, but i was there to talk to her and comfrot her (slept on her floor actually). I fed her at 10.30 and then at 2, but she actually wasn't that arsed about the feed. Trial and error has shown me that she does need one feed early on, but not two.
an

Anyway, after a few nights she didnt' seem bothered about the feed thing, upped her solid intake and her interest in breast feeding during the day and a couple fo weeks later i hardly ever feed her at night. I still get no sleep because she still wakes up, but that is another story...

Maria 2007 - Basically I want to know if it's possible to just night wean or will I have to stop altogether to get her to sleep?

She's only waking for comfort because she eats really well and she has bf before bed.

She's definitelt teething - molars are so sore, dribbling etc.

We co-sleep aswell. Hope this makes sense. I'm finding it hard to function at the moment.

I'm just realizing (re-reading your post) that you say your baby is 17 months old? I thought when I initially read it that you were referring to a 17 WEEKS old? If she's 17 months old, I have no idea what to suggest (my own DS is 25 weeks old). So I was assuming we were talking about a 17 WEEKS old... hope someone who knows more about toddlers can come along to help you

OK, thanks Maria2007.

I tried everything with my DS2. DS1 weaned easily at 1 year. In fact the last feed I dropped with him was the wake up in the morning one. Never even a frown.

DS2 though would NOT stop BF-ing even though I wanted to. He wasn't hungry - ate tons of solids and just wanted help to get back to sleep. At 18 months decided enough of no sleep was enough and did the cold turkey route. He yelled for 3 nights and that was that. I didn't leave him to cry by himself. I went and comforted him every ten mins or so - just didn't bf him back to sleep. Night 4 he slept though and has slept fine ever since. That was that for bf-ing though. I hadn't been b-feeding during the day any more by that point.
