I'm trying to get my 16 week old LO to take a bottle with not much success. I worried I've left it too late. Can anyone suggest anything that could help, type of bottles to use etc? Thank you.

Sorry, no advice but am lurking as my 20 weeker is now refusing the bottles he liked so much to begin with...

Hopefully someone more helpful will be along shortly!

Hi, my 6mth old will now take a little bit from a cup (tommee tippee first type). We have been letting him play with it (with water in) - was a suggestion on here. Have almost given up on bottle, though he plays with the NUK one most.

Have had the same prob with both DDs - never really hit on a solution but they did/do prefer the old fashioned brown rubber teats rather than the modern plastic ones - I've known other people have found the same thing.

I was posting with just this problem just 2 or 3 weeks ago. ds is 16 weeks now and we have FINALLY managed to get him to take a bottle of ebm. we had tried at 5 weeks and all fine so not tried for ages then when we did he utterly refused. We had been trying in evenings but I reckon he wasn';t hungry enough so we tried one am after he hadn't fed fór 10 hours. I expressed and then went out and dh gave it fresh from boob and still warm. It worked! (eventually) When we got it to work it was with tomy tippee teats (mark 2 ie not too fast) rather than avent. Try different trats, try when lo really huntgry and GO AWAY. If I was around it was too hard for either me or dh to maintain resolve as ds wanted a boob so easier to just give it. Now he'll take ebm pretty easily.

You could try this bottle: www.adiri.com/. it is designed to look/feel a lot like a breast.

I tried a bottle ahead of having some radioactive hospital treatment which would make my breastmilk unusable, with our second last week - he was 6 weeks old. Used a Mam ultivent teat number 2 and he took 2 oz, which I was amazed at. Mam teats were also the only ones our daughter would take when having EBM from childminder. They are very flat and soft. I was amazed that DS took the bottle from me given that I'd also just given him a breastfeed but he did.

thanks everyone for the suggestions - which i will definitely try. Fingers crossed!!

fledtoscotland · 19/01/2009 21:15

both of my DS's have only used MAM bottles/teats. not sure why they are different but they work

cyteen · 20/01/2009 21:59

Just a message of optimism for all your little strikers: my DS drank 3oz of EBM from a Tommee Tippee bottle this afternoon with no fuss or bother whatsoever
