The hv said today I need to get dd2 to eat more or we'll never get her to sleep well. Can you suggest how I can cut down on her bfs? She is really still fed on demand which I don't suppose she should be at 12 mo. I also need to get her to take a cup and stop bfeeding to sleep.

Feel a bit sad really...I wanted so much to bf after I couldn't the first time around...so glad I managed it but now I guess is the beginning of the end.

Main message I think coming out of these messages is don't feel you have to give up b/feeding in the day but work on trying to stop it at night. I still fed on demand at night and mine is 14 months old-somtimes he may only do it once or twice or sometimes double that and the broken sleep really takes it toll-I dont feel mentally prepared for the crying the household is going to endure when I try to stop at night so I keep on. Ive got pressure from relatives to stop all together and as he is my last I too feel sad when I think about stopping completely although a big part of me has had enough now. Its a real hard one to crack!

Thanks again for such good advice and replies. My dd2 is starting to take more solid food but as she does so her tummy is trying to adjust. She gets constpiated, and then has a day when her tummy just clears itself out. Last night she was really unsettled, then she did two huge nappies. So solid food definitely isn't helping her to sleep, is it?

I think I will have another baby afte rthis, all being well, but even so am dreading giving up bf, it has been such a big thing to me. So I just have to figure out a way of bfeeding and getting sleep!

What solid food does she eat, ionesmum? Can you try to give her less binding things (bananas can be constipating, for instance)?

Unfortunately, dd2 likes the things that aren't going to be all that good for her in that respect, particularly bananas, cheese and bread. She also seems to have a preference foroven chips! She does like grapes and yoghurt but o/wise doesn't like many fruits or veg. She's full of cold today, so I don't think we're going to get a lot of sleep .
