when i defrost ebm it tastes disgusting, kind of plasticky...need to get a small store together for next sat when i'm away from my baby for 24hrs, how are you supposed to freeze ebm? i previously used the freezing bags that came with my pump...

Freezing it does change it. I found that mine went a bit yellowy. Don't worry it's still fine - you might have to mix it with some fresh stuff to get your baby to take it at first.

If it's just this coming Saturday you don't need to freeze at all.
Current guidelines are that freshly expressed breastmilk never frozen is good in a fridge under 4c for up to 8 days. (It used to be 5 days but this has now been updated)

Don't put it in the door but nearer the back. If your fridge is dodgy then you may still want to freeze - those bags should be fine. It does change a bit with freezing and some say it's a bit metallic. If it's off the charts disgusting you may have an excess of lipase enzyme. More about that here and what you can do:

i'd disagree - i put ebm straight in the fridge towards the back and think it turns after 3 days to be honest, doesn't taste so good! maybe it's my freezer, hadn't thought about that

thanks for the links, will look into the liapse enzyme

I have the lipase thing - couldn't understand why DS1 wouldn't take a bottle of EBM until I realised it taseted like SOAP!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 17/01/2009 12:15

is there anything you can do about the liapse thing? seriously need a full day's supply for next Sat and I'm not able to express a lot at the moment as it is...supply is haywire

GWTMH - SamJamsmum's kellymom link tells what you can do about lipase. Basically, after expressing you have to heat your milk to scalding then cool and freeze. It works.
