Aptamil Easy Digest and Cow and Gate Comfort??

Hi

Is anyone using either of the above? Has anyone tried both and found one better than the other?

I'm having a right nightmare feeding my 5 week old. She was breastfed for 2 weeks - unfortunately had to stop due to 2 infections!! Felt awful about stopping and still do as Freya was so happy with breast milk.

Any way we started with Aptamil 1st, which she just wouldn't drink, and she was also showing signs of colic. I then tried the ready made cartons and she seemed to like these better, but the colic was still there and she was being sick lots and crying as if she had tummy ache.

HV suggested Easy Digest or Comfort, I went for the Easy Digest as was using Aptamil before. She seems better on this milk although she's still not drinking enough (between 2 and 3 ozs at each feed every 3 hours), she's still a little sick but not as much as before.

The milk doesn't seem as thick as it makes out, is the Comfort milk thicker? Don't know what to do, not too keen on changing milks again, but feel that Freya should be drinking more (she also sometimes pulls faces when drinking it too!)

Using Dr Browns bottles - they seem to be helping the colic I think.

I feel as though I'm obsessed with her feeding at the mo and feel crap about it, don't know what to do.

Any help/advice would be appreciated...

Thanks xx

DS is also on easy digest and its been a godsend after a long time of projectile vomit when BF. He still puts up a little after each feed but thats perfectly normal. It did take him a wee while to get used to the milk but after a few days he was used to it. He is now very happy and content and sleeps all night where before he would wake with hunger or wind.

As for the amount your DD is taking, remember that some babies are just hungrier than others and as long as she is gaining weight she is fine with that amount of food. If it wasn't enough then she'd soon finish the bottle and cry for more. The amounts on the side of the box are just a guideline. Another thing that could be causing her to eat less is if she has wind in her tummy taking up the space instead of milk so after she's winded offer her the bottle again and if this is the case she will drink more.

All in all, I'm sure she will let you know pretty quickly when she wants more.

PS if the colic is still bad try Colief drops in her milk.

My ds was on Omneo Comfort and it was great ... it is thicker so you probably need a different numbered teat on the bottle and be warned ... the nappies are horrific!

My first born was sick every feed which led to me not being able to breastfeed. Eventually after going to the doc numerous times we were referred to a paediatrician who diagnosed reflux. By this stage we had tried all kinds of things going through Infacol, Colief, Gaviscon infant and gripe water. In the end, we used a formula called SMA staydown which worked the best for us. The majority of it would stay down and my boy started to put on weight. We were told by the paediatrician that children generally outgrow reflux by the time they are a year old as their digestive system is stronger and the weak valve is stronger and doesn't let the food back up.

I've just had a girl who is 6 weeks old and she is displaying all the signs of colic so I'm going to try Aptamil comfort as from today with gaviscon and colief mixed in as suggested by the doc (hopefully this will allow us all to get some sleep!).
