What sling for Breastfeeding in?

Hi. I have a ring sling that I was hoping to use for BF when this baby arrives in April BFbut have recently heard negative comments about it and have heard that some people can't BF in. I want to be able to BF while sorting out my older baby who will be about 15-16 months when baby arrives. Ideally I would like to be hands free and so you can't see me BF in it as last time we had loads of guests, who were all a bit uncomfortable with it and i ended up keep going in another room which did my head in.

Any recomendations would be great.

Thanks

the ring sling may well work for you - i know many who've done it, as have i, although not hands free. certainly they're great for preserving mdesty if you have one with an open tail (i.e. the end that goes through the ring is like a shawl rather than sewn into a strap).

if you do find you have problems i have bfed hands free in a close carrier. its like 2 crossed stretchy ring slings. i think hving rings for bf is important as then you can tweak it just so, which is important for good positioning. having 2 slings allows you to give extra support where needed.

chloe there is an element of trial and error when it comes to baby carriers - it really all comes down to personal preference. Which RS have you got? An unpadded one with an open tail will give you the most adjustability as you can tighten the top or bottoom rail independently and get a really good position/fit for you and your LO. I used to BF in a RS a lot and found it worked great - especially when LO was smaller. As they got a bit bigger, (6 months or so) I also actually used to feed them in an upright position in a MT or a wrap. Unless you are already a confident wrpper thoug I would say that that would take a bit more practice.
A Rs would probably be the easiest to master, although you may end up finding you prefer another 2 shouldered carrier for comfort as you become more confident at babywearing.

I bf loads in a ring sling - I had an Ellaroo, and could walk around in public feeding him hands free and no one could see a thing

I didn't realise there was more than one ring sling

You should go and have a look at www.thebabywearer.com it has loads of info on babywearing in general, and about breastfeeding with a sling/carrier. don't get too bogged down with all the different types of carriers ( there are millions!) just look at some of the general info, and stuff about breastfeeding.

I have bf in both a Close and a Kari Me. The Close was fantastic for early days after the birth, because the rings make it easy to adjust- I don't think you'd get better than a Close at frist tbh. Now ds is a bit older (7 months) and I am more confident with feeding I am using a Kari Me, which I have no complaints about whatsoever Both are incredibly comfortable and allow you to be truly hands free which I don't think you'd get with a ring sling. And even now I can feed ds in both slings without anyone having a clue what I'm doing
