Past extended bfers, did you get engorged when your dc weaned?

2yo ds2 weaned at the weekend but I haven't had any discomfort or engorgement or any signs at all that he hasn't nursed for a week. He only fed morning and night for a few minutes really but I was expecting to feel a bit full at some point. Is it normal not to?

If it is normal, what are the chances of my boobs disappearing considering I've obviously had minimal supply for a while. I quite like them the size they are!

No, not really, still got boobs, but if I actually lost the weight I should do then maybe would have smaller boobs (need to get down to size 14 from 18, am now 34G and used to be 34E)

Habbibu · 09/01/2009 22:34

DD was 20 mo when we stopped, and I had no signs at all - I guess it's the long duration of very small feeds. Haven't really noticed a change in size, tbh.

Kafka · 09/01/2009 22:37

Likewise no change and dd is a late weaner, she would dispute that she is weaning , this may well be wrong but I thought that the breasts got expert at making milk on the spot as and when it is demanded which is why the engorgment thing only happens at the beginning??

Olihan · 09/01/2009 22:39

Oh that's good . Hormone dip has been quite bad but seems to be easing off now, thank goodness.

I'm in the process of losing my baby weight (finally ) and i'm 2 stone down but still have at least another 2 to go. I was a bit worried that weight loss + weaning = no boobs! I'm a 36E at the moment but was a 36DD before pg/bfing so didn't change much anyway.

That would make sense, Kafka .

Well done Olihan!

girlandboy · 09/01/2009 22:42

No change here.

But took another 2.5 years to totally dry up!

hester · 09/01/2009 22:43

I bf till 22 months - only one feed per day by end, so no engorgement when I stopped.

My breasts were a VERY sorry sight for some months after, but strangely they seem to have perked up since and are back to my pre-pg size.

BlueSapphire77 · 09/01/2009 22:44

I didn't either.. Did feel wierd for a bit though, not feeding a baby, and they dripped for weeks
And my hormones went nuts..i would cry about everything

callmeovercautious · 09/01/2009 22:45

DD is 2.4y and is self weaning - only feeds the odd once or twice every few days now. She even has a little then says no, yuck and sulks! I think it is drying up a bit!

The only thing I have noticed is an ache in my armpits, no engorgement or pain as such but and odd feeling. Unless you count being itchy - which I think is more to do with it being cold outside My norks get cold then I walk into a hot room and "bam" really itchy

trixymalixy · 09/01/2009 22:54

No I didn't get engorged when I stopped feeding DS at about 22 months. They were a bit tender for a bit, but that was it.

Olihan · 09/01/2009 23:01

Achy armpits, yes, I have those now you've mentioned it. I hadn't connected the two but they are distinctly achy.

hester, I am ignoring you . Denial is bliss, they will not be in a sorry state! Mind you, they already fail the pencil case test so my topless modelling career is dead in the water, regardless .

Feenie · 09/01/2009 23:03

I bfed till ds was 3, recently, and had no engorgement at all.

BuckBuckMcFate · 09/01/2009 23:05

No engorgement here and back to a 32DD from a 32GG so general manouevering is easier!

But I still have milk 18 months later...

Olihan · 09/01/2009 23:06

Does anyone know why you can still ahve milk months or years after stopping?

OP posts:
girlandboy · 09/01/2009 23:13

I did ask the doctor that question, and she just shrugged her shoulders and said that it was unusual but not unknown.

Apparently BuckBuck and I would have made good wet nurses in medieval times!

pasturesnew · 09/01/2009 23:16

Survival of the species presumably. I think if I were left alone for a while with a crying newborn my body would respond accordingly.

Olihan · 09/01/2009 23:17

LOL at wet nurse, I wonder how much that would pay these days? My ideal job involves sitting in front of DVD boxset and eating supply boosting cake and chocolate whilst cuddling a small baby .

hercules1 · 10/01/2009 07:13

No engorgement just slight achiness I think.

georgimama · 10/01/2009 07:26

I weaned DS (22 months) a week ago. For the first two or three days my breasts felt quite heavy and achy, and I felt a bit fluy. Like I did when my milk first came in. The left one had a slightly ominous patch of red near the nipple. I hand expressed a little tiny bit of milk to get rid of the worst of the heavy feeling.

Now I am fine but still have milk.

Olihan - well I'm looking at a new career, sounds lush!

As longs as I can hand baby back to mum for nappy changes - I'll just stick to dealing with my ds's stinky bum lol

mamijacacalys · 10/01/2009 14:44

No ill effects after weaning DD at 20 mo. Like most others, was down to one or two feeds by then.

That was 10 months ago and boobs have shrunk from a J (throughout bf) to an E/F cup.

Don't have any milk but a friend who's youngest is 6 claims she can still spurt on hearing a newborn cry or even kittens mewing
