Im thinking of trying this in the hope of getting my 5mth old to sleep longer at nights.
She currently wakes a few times a night and only drinks a few ozs tops.

Anyone tried a bottle of Hungry baby milk before bed? Did it have the disired effects?

Do you mean casein-dominant formula, pigley, or 'night time' milk?

hazeyjane · 08/01/2009 19:49

I really don't like milks like this, but in desperation I tried the Hipp organic nighttime milk, when dd2 was 13 months, it made her constipated and she woke up 3 times in the night with trapped wind, which she had never suffered from before!

If she is only taking a couple of oz's, she might be waking for comfort and a cuddle, rather than hunger.

hannahlouhoo · 08/01/2009 19:51

What about water? and a cuddle?

Lulumama · 08/01/2009 19:53

not water... offer normal milk and let her learn to regulate her appetite

hungry baby milk can give a baby tummy ache and it is not going to give you an undisturbed night

5 months old need to feed in teh night and it is a classic growth spurt time anyway

tiktok- DD is on Aptimal normal formula so was thinking of Aptimal hungry baby milk.

HazeyJane- Its quite possible that is a habit of waking as I dont think shes really that hungry. She will has 3 ozs tops.

Just wondering if a bottle of this would help fill her up and go longer than 3 hours before waking again.

Lulumama- Its been a "growth spurt" since 3mths!

Before that she was slowly imporving then about 3mths took a nose dive and its never got any better.

if you are going to try it then do it in the day time so she is going to have time to have tummy ahce in the day rather than be up screaming all night !

Grendle · 08/01/2009 23:07

There isn't really any research evidence that I've seen that night waking is prevented by filling babies up with food during the day. If anyone else knows of any, I'd be interested to read it .

I hate to break it to you, but night waking is normal for babies and studies have shown that it often continues throughout the whole of the first year and beyond. Some babies sleep through, but others don't and it's not uncommon or abnormal, just tiring.

faeriemoo · 08/01/2009 23:09

The only reason it could possibly help a baby sleep longer is because it takes longer to digest and process than regular formula. It is known for causing constipation and discomfort. Personally, I wouldn't wish that on my baby for an extra hour of sleep. Babies wake at night, that's what they do.

Hiii,
I give my son 1 Aptimil hungry baby bottle at 7pm every night and normal Aptimil milk through the day and he hasn't been in any discimfort so far. It's worked for me but that's not to say it will work for every baby. I do however, give him a little water in between feeds through the day (when I get chance!!!) as I was paranoid about him getting constipated. Hope this helps!! (smile)

Just to say that around the same time we had a problem that ds was constantly waking at 4am and wouldn't resettle. We gave him hungry baby and he started sleeping through so it worked for us. But he has a huge appetite and would never just drink a few ounces at a time. Given the chance, he'd down an 8 ounce bottle and look around for more....

princessdaisyboo · 10/01/2009 21:08

hi i tried this recently with aptamil 2 but it didnt make my 8 week old ds sleep longer but made him cry more with wind and stomach ache and constipation so i stopped bothering, the hv said that it isnt more filling and does not contain more fat its just harder to digest so it sits in thier stomach for longer, so it depends if your baby has a sensitive stomach like mine. I did go onto the hungrier baby milk with my daughter when she was 4 months but she was already sleeping through then she was fine from it.
mixed reveiws on this one it works for some and not for others so worth a try, hope you are blessed with a full nights sleep soon, im despetate for one but think ive got a while to wait!!!!
good luck

ShinySarah · 11/01/2009 07:14
