hi
I am 33 weeks pregnant with my third child. I posted a few months ago on here my particular reasons for not breastfeeding but since then I have felt as if I could just give it a go one more time (I tried and gave up in the first few days both time before).

Is it harmful to just try for even if its just the first feed at the hospital. I have all of the things I need to bottlefeed but I just keep feeling as though I want to at least give it a shot?
I hope that makes sense!

I dont to stress about it for the reasons mentioned in my previous post but i just dont want to give up without even trying.

is it better to just pick and stick with one option or can I give it a go then go to bottle if it is too much?

Give it a go. I did not want to feed my first- although I did wobble slightly when she did all the rooting. My scond, I gave it a go for the first 24 hours! My 3rd, gave it a 'go' that lasted 19 months. You never know!

Every single drop of BM that your baby gets is beneficial! Far better to give it a go as you can always change if needs be - not so easy the other way round.

Reasons To Be Proud gives details of how every feed counts.

Set small goals - one feed at a time if that is what helps you. Best of luck with it

i 'gave it a go' with ds3 (after failing with DS1&2) and i have only just stopped - he is 10 months

At frst i decided to do a feed at a time, then a day at a time.

and in any case, half a bf is better than no bf isn't it?

Definately give it a go. With DC1 I breastfed for 6 weeks. Im still breastfeeding DC2 10 months on. All situations are different....this time it might just work you never know. And if it doesnt work at least you tried.
How are you Fernie? I posted on another of your threads.

Even one feed gives your baby a big boost. It's fab that you feel you want to give it a go .

I'm sorry, I don't remember if I've read your other post, but I wonder if you might want to consider calling someone before your baby arrives to debrief what has happened to you before and figure out any support you might want for when this baby arrives? The national helpline is on 0844 20 909 20, and you would be put through to a mum in her own home who has done an awful lot of training in bf. They really aren't scary and would love to talk to you and help in any way they can, even if it just to talk about what happened before or your plans for that first feed.

Good luck.

I would second what Grendle has said. I would recommend speaking to someone with real experience to ANY mum but becuase you did have a difficult time the last time I think it's even more important for you to just talk about it. Every baby is different (as I'm sure you well know by now! )so maybe you'll have better luck this time. I think having support available in advance will make a big difference.
It's really great that you want to give it a go and ANY breastmilk is a good thing. Hope it works out for you.
