Biting - how do you stop/manage it?

DS (19 weeks) has started biting me hard, sometimes pulling back but holding on and it really really hurts Is there a way to stop them, or cope with it? Thanks

Ouch! There are some suggestions here that might help.

Ouch! I used to put ds on the floor and walk off when he did this. He only did it twice.

Hunker gave me the best tip ever for this!
When baby bites, push their head into the breast, making breathing difficult. They have to open their mouth and by God they don't do it again!

I heard the pushing into breast tip but DS is still quite young, DS1 was biting about 9 months so was more 'trainable'. Plus twice DS2 has buried his head abit too much and not been able to breathe for a second and was desperatly upset, I am worried being so tiny that he will panic if I do that technique. Thanks so much though!

Thankyou for the link, I think DS wasn't feeding just having a little snack half heartidly . It's the reason I gave up BFing DS1 at about 10 months (so had little razor teeth), he was ripping me to shreds so the fact DS2 has started is making me panic!

I used to take DS off for a few minutes when he did that.

When it was happening a lot, it was due to him teething so I gave him bonjela just before a feed or calpol if he was having a bad time of it with them.

I used to say "No!" really firmly and take him off, then make him wait for a few moments before letting him back on. It seemed to work. My mum's top tip was, although it's really hard, try(!) not to scream or shout when they bite as they may decide it's funny and do it again deliberately to get that reaction! Though I think that is more true as they get a bit older and more able to connect cause & effect.
