Hi MamaG,
I still have my SW BF booklet!
Upto 2 months- 3 additional Healthy Extras
2-3 months 4 additional Healthy Extras
4-6 months if starting to wean- down to 3 additional Healthy Extras
4-6months if still exclusively BF stick at 4 additional Healthy Extras
over 6 months when weaning 1 additional Healthy Extra.

As my DS didn't eat anything of substance at 6-7 months I still allowed myself 2-4 extra if starving!

They suggest you take one and preferably 2 of the additional choices from the milk and cheese section (A) (Non BF diet is 1-2 healthy extras section A and 2 healthy extra B choices (cereal etc).

Also recommend using calcium rich Free Foods like low fat yogurts, quark, fromage frais, tinned sardines, spinach, broccolli and kale

They also say use all 15 syns per day, but no more

But actually, if you are eating 4 portions of dairy and 4 from the B section, 15 syns is more than enough!

I remember eating ryvita minis as they count as a healthy extra B, as do 20 cashew nuts.

Dried /stewed/tinned fruit also counts as a B, so have loads of choice for low syn treats - lowfat custard to use the milk, on baked apple, yum!

A mince pie would probably be about 15 syns?!

I found the extreme BF hunger died down after a few months and appetite went back to normal i.e I stopped needing to eat at every night feed!

Good luck

if you are hungry eat clementines! (20 cals) sticking to 2000 cals a day should see you drop 2lbs a week. if you are active eat a few hundred more. sometimes weight loss slows/stops because you are not eating enough. and drink plenty of water

Hi MamaG

WW you can get 10 extra points per day for BFing. I did it after DD, and was amazed at how much I could eat and still be on a diet.

There are a few of us here if you want to come and join us. The website linked by Dozymare is pretty good....and more importantly is FREE

I'm with you on the hunger though...I feel half starved all the time and craving sugar. I think being up half the night doesn't help either!

Hi MamaG,

I was thinking about you last night (my life is so empty) and wondered if you eat meat or are veggie?

If you are a carnivore then SW have done a new plan where all free foods (red and green) are free and then you pick a Healthy A and a Healthy B. This means you can have pasta/potatoes/rice with meat/fish all for free. Add your extra bf Healthy Extras and this would be a really easy plan for you to follow even without going to a group. I think there is a SW thread on MN too - join up with me!

Anyway this months SW mag has a big article on this new plan and a menu planner. No good for me as am veggie.

MamaG · 08/01/2009 10:38

laundrylover I'm a veggie too. I think I will start SW again, but won't go to the meetings as my leader is shite!

I thought you were a veggie..we must have been on another thread about food together.

We've got a new consultant who seems pretty good so here's hoping I can shed this weight quickly.

Just been for a 3 mile run in the snow so feeling good - the joys of having no babies anymore.

One thing I would say is that contrary to some diets, it's not a good idea to eat low fat versions of dairy. My Mother has been saying this for years and that it can adversely affect your mood and health and recently there have bene reports in the press confirming this.
Fat is essential for health, makes you feel full more quickly and avoiding it can make you feel very low/grumpy.
What I would try to avoid in yor shoes is excess sugar and refined carbs such as bread/pasta/cakes/pies etc.
Ian Marber the "Food Doctor" nutritionist is excellent and wites about this, he has written some very accessible books and has a website

Some good bullet points here

I agree with much of wha you say Pannacotta, however the joy of Slimming World for me (and most veggies!) is that you can eat as much fruit, veg and pasta and you like .

It really is just a healthy eating plan - I was sceptical until I lost over 3 stone whilst eating plates piled high!

Sadly cakes are out.

Pannacotta · 08/01/2009 14:00

Perhaps what I should have added is that a low fat diet is esp not recommended if you are breastfeeding, particularly the early stages of exclusive breastfeeding.

laundylover not sure I have seen any diets where cakes are allowed, unfortunately!

Sounds like you'e doing well Butterfly.

I have a sports bra from bravissimo and combined with a support vest I can run with no bounce at all.

For those sugar carvings how about baked sweet potato (just had that for lunch - yum)? The Alpen light bars are quite nice too and have no sweeteners. Toffee fudge are my fave and are half a healthy extra too.

I do have cake and chocs on SW -I use my 'syns'...can't manage without!!!

laundrylover · 08/01/2009 14:45

Sugar carvings???
