Nope, in fact your baby probably gave it to you in the first place. Hope you feel better soon.

It's important you continue to bf, scorpio - that way your baby gets the antibodies to help him stay well. You will not pass the virus/bacteria in your milk but you will pass the antibodies

I had sickness and trotts (sorry cant spell diarrea) whilst BF DS2 and rang HV to ask same question and was told baby wont get it from B milk so to carry on BFing. If baby is going to catch the bug you have got they will catch it but not through BFing. As it happened DS2 didnt catch the bug. HTH

Yes definitely carry on bfing, just make sure you keep your fluids up as you could become dehydrated more easily.

scorpio1 · 30/12/2008 11:46

i am too scared to have water, dh is cross because he says i have to for her as well. Just scared it will make me sick as im starting to recover.

No, you can carry on - in fact you will pass on the immunity rather than the bug, so babe will be less likely to get it, IYSWIM. I had two of these bugs whilst BF'ing (I have stopped BF'in today - booo hooo hooo - but that's a whole new thread.....) and the most important thing is to keep your fluid supply up if you can - but bear in mind that you will starve and waste away long before your baby does - they are skilful parasites! (Joke. Of course they are not parasites, they are adorable bundles of joy.)

Also make sure you get plenty of rest - during one of my bugs I was in bed for 2 days and DD literally had to be brought to me for feeds and taken away again! I was so tempted at one stage to top up with formula, but I held off, she was fine, fed a bit more for a few days after I got well and then carried on feeding for another 6 months!

Hope you feel better soon

You do need to drink. I've breastfed while being sick - DD just refused to be put off by mum vomiting in a waste paper basket and even nursed while I sat on the loo

Send your DH out to get some rehydration salts from the chemist, they cut the recovery time in half and can stop you vomiting if you have an electrolyte imbalance (common after D&V).

When you get back to eating, try and down a few bananas to recover your potassium levels too.

i have just got some water. DH is bringing her to me for BFs, im not doing anything else
