Blocked duct under left nipple but no baby to unblock it...yet

I've tried warm cloths in the bath which does help but it is re-blocking again.

In the past I've just continue to feed baby frequently from that side but I'm 34 weeks pg so not an option.

What else can I do?

Will attempting to unblock by hand expressing the colostrum encourage more of a blockage or worse, my milk to come in early?

Hand expressing should help. You can also try the self-help measures here, which is about mastitis, but the same things apply. Not sure if it's safe to take ibuprofen in pregnancy, you'd need to check with a pharmacist first.

Not sure whether to mention this, as it's not everyone's cup of tea, but some people find dh/dp helpful for clearing blocked ducts...

Sorry, this is a bit gross but here goes........

Can you see anything on your nipple like a little white spot or something that looks like a little bit of crusted on milk but cannot be brushed or squeezed away? I have had similar this week and managed to gently burst this little 'blister' with the help of a sterilised needle in a warm bath (surprisingly it didn't hurt at all). After this i massaged the breast and jets of milk came out relieving my massive blockage. It was almost as if a bit of milk had crusted on and then a skin had grown over it

I first read about it on here so i'm sure you can search for other threads and advice

I think it's only the placenta being expelled that causes the hormones that bring the milk in to be released.

Colostrum is produced in pregnancy and it is possible to get a blocked duct at that stage.

Yes I know, I was answering this question: "Will attempting to unblock by hand expressing the colostrum encourage more of a blockage or worse, my milk to come in early?"

D'oh, sorry

I can feel a small lump under the nipple and it isn't as sore as it was so maybe I'll keep on with the expressing.

Even I draw the line at Dh intervening.

No it's not a blister or anything like that frogs, but thanks.

Thanks for answering my query everyone
