Yes to all 3 questions .
What is your age gap? Did you have any questions?

ds is 3.5 years and dd now 16 months.

theyoungvisiter · 20/12/2008 21:34

am just starting it now - 2.5 year age gap - DS1 is 2.5 and DS2 is 3 weeks

So can't claim to be an expert but it's been fine so far - found feeding during pregnancy to be quite painful though.

Grendle, nice to meet someone who's been doing it for a while - are you still going? I don't know any RL tandem feeders adn feel a bit lonely sometimes!

Grendle · 20/12/2008 22:47

Ooo yes, pregnancy was difficult, I got v sore too.

Yes, ds still feeds about 3-4 times a week just once a day, so still tandem feeding, though sometimes I forget, as it's only about 15 mins a week! Dd obviously eats lots too, so it's not like when they're newborn.

I've met several tandem feeders on another parenting site, and have one friend in RL whose tandem feeding her 2 as well. You're not alone .

My DC2 self weaned when I was around 10-12 weeks pregnant with DC3. When DC3 was born he decided he wanted his mummy milk again. I tandem fed them for about 3 months until DC2 decided he didn't want it again, he was just over 2 at the time.

I am tandem nursing 28 month old DD and 4 month old DS. It has good and bad points but overall it works for us Especially at the end of a long busy day, we all sit down to nurse and it helps put us all in a better mood.

What would you like to know ?

foxytocin · 21/12/2008 09:37

i'm a reluctant tandem feeder. DD1 is now 3.8yr old and dd2 is nearly 3 mos. DD1 refuses to give up and I see the health and emotional benefits for her so I don't want to wean her but I don't care for the extra demands it puts on me so I find it tedious.

Grendle · 21/12/2008 14:15

Foxytocin -I have to agree, feeding a 3.5 yr old doesn't fill me with joy either these days . We're forever discussing stopping around his next birthday , and the fact that it's only once a day and not every day is definitely mother-led.

foxytocin · 21/12/2008 15:05

What makes it less endearing to me is that I am bfing her every night, 3x in 24 hrs. if i'd let her, she'd bf more often. i wish it was once a day or even less often but by circumstance at the moment, it isn't a good idea to do some mother led cutting down.

I was a tandem feeder. Second baby was born when first nursling was 3.4 and he self-weaned just after his 4th birthday when she was 8 months.
The only tough moments were at night when he went through a phase of asking to nurse but it didn't last for long. I used to give him 3 rubber bracelets each bedtime and tell him he could 'buy' 3 milkies and he got a treat if any were left in the morning. I know it sounds a bit mechanical but it really helped me get through it. Towards the end he was only feeding once at bedtime.

Very glad I was able to let him self-wean and I think all round it was a positive experience.
