Not sure where to post this really.

Does anyone have any advice to get DS2 to settle in his moses basket?

I am so tempted to see if we still have any dummies left from DS1 but I think we got rid of them. He won't settle at all really and its getting really hard to even do something as simple as having some dinner.

I'm not getting hardly any sleep at all. As soon as he finishes feeding I put him down and he cries. So we've been co-sleeping, which we don't really like doing but it's the only way I get any sleep. We were awake from 1 this morning with a few half hour naps. I am ashamed to say I honestly thought about FF at 3 this morning like I did with DS1 but I am determined to keep trying.

The MW said to try to feed him again, from the other breast but 9 times out of 10 he just goes to sleep. Even if DH picks him up and cuddles him he'll go to sleep.

He does have slight jaundice and is 3 days old. He weighed 10lb 5oz when he was born so not sure if that is a factor.

Any and all ideas are welcome.

Thanks.

the engorgement does settle down eventually, you should be ok in a few days. atm your body is making plenty and soon enough it'll figure out that actually it doesn't need to make so much so it'll all calm down.

glad you're enjoying him

It only seems to be the left one that is really the problem. Would it be better to put him on that one first everytime?

This is where my bf knowledge goes awry, as I can only go on my personal eperience of feeding 2 babies

But I used to alternate between breasts (ie L for a feed, R for next feed) But both mine were unusual in that they only ever fed from 1 breast per feed - I never had to offer both. Are you offering both sides each feed?

I'd probably go with the one which felt the most full, yes... but hopefully someone with better more expertise than me will post soon

kayzr · 17/12/2008 20:47

Yeah I am offering both as MW said to do that. He had been taking just one side per feed but they have said to take him off after 15 minutes and then put him on the other breast.

IIRC I think it is best to offer both breasts, certainly in the early days

kayzr · 17/12/2008 20:50

I didn't realise it would hurt so much and that they would be so hot.

Are they hurting generally

Or specifically when you are feeding?

kayzr · 17/12/2008 21:02

All the time. After I have fed they stop hurting as much but within half an hour they start to really hurt again. Well its mainly the left one.

kayzr, have you seen the midwife recently? can you get her to check your breasts, it could be the start of mastitis or something

thisisyesterday · 17/12/2008 21:05

some good info on it here

kayzr · 17/12/2008 21:08

I saw her today and she said it was normal at this stage and to try to massage from my underarm down towards the nipple.

yeah, I mean the best thing even if it is mastitis is to keep feeding from it.
but keep an eye on it if it's particularly painful, hot etc.

kayzr · 17/12/2008 21:17

The MW isn't coming tomorrow. Do you think I should give them a ring and ask her to come out?
