2 month old screaming at end of feed

I posted earlier asking for help as I thought perhaps my baby was having problems with a fast letdown. But today she has been so miserable at every feed, and I don't actually think it is the letdown after all. She feeds for about 5 or 6 mins, then comes off and starts to scream, with her body completely rigid. I don't know what to do for her. I can get her to burp, but it doesn't resolve the problem. She is so wretched, and then just wants to conk out to sleep straight away after a big scream.

What could it be? I will go & see the health visitors next week but in the meantime any ideas? This is horrible.

Could it be reflux? A friend had something that sound similar with her DS at around this age and eventually got a diagnosis of reflux, but it wasn't making him sick, I think it is called silent reflux when they aren't sick.

Could it be silent reflux?

there is some information on kellymom

If it was reflux, would it just be associated with the actual time of feeding, or would it cause problems for her the rest of the time? Because she is fine the rest of the time and is sleeping well at night, so I'm really hoping those things mean it isn't reflux.

yes, sounds like my baby's reflux. He was 4 months when we finally diagnosed it because he wasn't vomiting, sometimes he fed fine and he slept well through the night. He started to get a cough and sound phlegmy around 2 months so we thought he had a cold he couldn't shift until xrays etc proved silent reflux. It's easily treated with medication (though hard to get a baby to swallow it).

Oh, no.... I really was hoping it couldn't be. Presumably even if I go along to the GP and suggest that it might be silent reflux, it will still take ages to establish whether it is or not? And if she is still gaining weight will they take it seriously?

I think GPs are reluctant to diagnose straight up because it's often self diagnosed by parents. I hadn't heard of silent reflux so was pushing the fact that DS had a cold he couldn't shift. My DS was still gaining weight but obviously wasn't a big eater which alarmed me but the GP wasn't very concerned. I'd just list the symptoms and ask to trial the medication for a week (should see improvement within a few days if it's reflux). There would be no harm done. It's sad to think of a baby in pain. Trust your gut instinct, I knew something was wrong, even if I suspected the wrong thing!
